do they have an alcoholic in the family

AFOAF of fine is married with 2 young children. She and her husband have had many issues due to alcohol. Mostly because she says he has a drink problem but he says he hasnt. But do they? He drinks "to block out the stresses of life". not necessarily to the extent of being drunk, but often and doesn't know when to stop. Sometimes, my friend's husband is asleep on the sofa by 7pm, which is before his children are asleep. Then he wakes after 3-4 hours and has another drink. My friend needs help/advice/guideance as their relationship has reached breaking point and separation is looking iminant. Where should she go to find out if he does have an alcohol dependance and how?
