Hi folk,
I mean, I would know if you think that more drugs can lead to a spiritual experience and others not ? Traditionaly, native people used peyote, shrooms or ayahuasca in other to reach such states of mind, and today lot of people think that in a ritual/spiritual context they're the only products that can produce a deep experience. What do you think about it ? What about acid, dpt or any other chemical compound ? |

I think they do but not because of the drug but because of the symbolism, the drugs history because natives used natural drugs and not chemicals so its like this is what it was used for and could reasonably be considered from the earth and brings you to the earth, its like the chemicals are made exclusively for recreation.
you know what i meen |

i think any psychedelic or mentally intense drug, manmade or natural,
can produce spiritual experience. but weed or body high type drugs like uppers, downers, opiates, and alcohol are not capable of doing it. |

Weed can be spiritual and has been used spiritually. Not as much as pyschedelics but you get the idea.
Some psychedelics are more spiritual and give more profound experiences (in general) than others. An example would be 2c-e being more enlightening than 2c-i. |

Drugs aren't spiritual. People are spiritual. Drugs can be usedas a spiritual tool, but so can meditation or other ritual acts. I don't think many people think that"unnatural" psychedelics cannot be used for spiritual means; LSD is a good example as it has been used spiritualy and has made many people have spiritual experiences. As I said before, drugs can be tools, but drugs will never take people as far as say a Yogi or Buddhist monk's meditation, imo. Sloppo |

I like sloppo’s take on it. </span>The way I would put it is that drugs can open doors; they may even let one spend some time in the space behind the door; but at least in swim’s observation of </span>himself and others, on their own drugs don’t enable one to live in that space. </span>So while drugs can be an incredibly helpful tool in giving an experience beyond conventional consensual reality, they are only one tool among many. </span>Just like a carpenter benefits enormously from having and using a hammer, if that is the only tool that the carpenter uses, then s/he is going to be rather limited in possibilities; similarly if one is interested in exploring “spirituality,” making use of certain drugs can benefit one enormously, however, making use of other tools as well will allow one to go much much further. Different drugs are useful for different people and for different purposes, with set and setting playing a huge role in determining the nature of the experience. </span>Also what one person considers spiritual may be very different than what another labels as spiritual. </span> And to finally get around to the original question of this thread, for swim lsd and saliva have been particularly valuable in regards to those dimensions that he labels as spiritual, though quite clearly, especially in the case of salvia, others have very different experiences. |

In Tihkal Ann shulgin discusses the use of psychodelic materials to allow us to think outside of our egos and the mask that wear for society to see us and get in touch with the real spirit inside. Like sloppo says if you are completely devoid of such a spirit or soul and or it is buried so deep it can not easily be found then psychedelics may be more than you'll be able to handle. I think that's why vain egotistical people that are afraid of the real person inside usually find drugs like coke, meth, or dopemake them feel good. Shulgin says these drugs are power and ego based andhepl to give people false power. I don't think psychodelics are like that. Theenvironment I've been in when doing these with others is usually a very cool, non aggressive, sharing place. Naturally it's plain to see why our government would want to keep these dangerous substances away from the masses.
