Homemade Ghoster

As a little summer project, Swim and a friend are trying to make a simple yet effective smoke filtration device aka a Ghoster. We've been able to eliminate 99.9% of the smell, but we can't find a way to eliminate the smoke as substantially. Does anyone know how or if it is even possible to filter out a large percentage of visible smoke?
