had been doing very lucrative contracted and/or sometimes fulltime programming/web work for a long time (~6 years worth before going to lawschool) and had a lot of money saved. He also had an amazing job in lawschool functioning in basically all regards as a real estate/contract lawyer and getting paid extremely well, a scholarship that left him about $20,000-$30,000 extra play-money a year, and about $80-100,000 in cash-available credit, with like another $30-40,000 in regular (all of which he used up and is being hunted for
SWIM's crazy habit wouldn't have even really done himself in alone. He was always very generous and didn't care about money - his supporting other people's habits for years, and just giving all his money away to help his friends who weren't doing so well is what really put him under. He's been buying everyone's drugs
, tickets, cover, beer, etc. for 80% of party nights since he was like 18, plus his favorite thing is to buy people really thought out and personal gifts - so betwen all that he has given probably closing in on a quarter million away of his own money to others between all his friends, little brother and family.
He doesn't regret it at all though, despite what a shitty life he has now. But for someone with a Bachelor of Science in Finance, he is horrible with money as far as saving goes, now, when he needs to be doing it most. Even now if he has $20 bucks and no hope, he'll still buy 1 bag for him and 1 for a friend even knowing they aren't going to reciprocate. No clue why that is such inherent nature to him. He's just a sucker
The $100 days are gone, but SWIM wouldn't do $100 a day anyways. He is a firm believer that $30 bucks a day (maybe pushing it with $40) is the absolute ideal and anything more is pointless.
