The I challenge someone to kick an addiction with swim thread

This is the challenge some one to kick a minor addiction with swim thread. Caffeine/nicotine etc. The purpose of the thread is to inspire some competition in the kicking. Swim is kicking cigarettes does anyone one to take up a day for day no cigarette challenge?

Or feel free to post swiys own challenge

Re: The I challenge someone to kick an addiction with swim thread

Sparkles put her cigarette out to answer this.
Minor addiction...Spare Change obviously isn't as addicted as Sparkles....her nicotine addiction is fierce.
Yeah...she's been seriously thinking of trying it. She is seeing her doc on Friday so she's gonna see what she can use (patches, pills) with her other meds.
Mmmmmm...she's scared to say yes...she knows once she does she has to kick it. She feels put on the spot...especially after all her bitchin' about it.
But she does feel hypocritical, telling others to quit drugs, when she's still addicted to nicotine.
Did Spare Chaynge have a specific start date, Sparkles found having a plan, when she quit heroin, worked best.
Tell Sparkles again...why does she want to quit?

Sparkles.

Re: The I challenge someone to kick an addiction with swim thread

Its a minor thing but Red Rock is going to try to go the rest of this week without caffeine. He has already quit opiates, well actually every drug now but psychedelics, and has quit smoking about 2-3 months ago so he will see how going without caffeine will affect him. He thinks that this will be an interesting challenge because although caffeine doesn't cause him any problems, he believes he is somewhat addicted to it in the fact that he always has a soda or something of that nature everyday.

Re: The I challenge someone to kick an addiction with swim thread

swim got the jump on sparkles.....its been like 3 days with out one....but swim is on the patch. Swim never would of been able to do even with the patch but its like all of the sudden his lungs and throat can not deal with it. For the past week he has had a killer soar throat and he is convinced it is due to smoking because the dr said he did not know what was wrong. At night he can not sleep because he has to hack stuff up... He is on step 2 as of now 14mg over 24 hours and plans on moving down to step 3- 7mg over 24 hours as soon as he gets the money. he has only been on step 2 for like a week now.

still not caffeine...swim is going to do all the way with ya.

Although I doubt this is particularly helpful, SWIM finds the best way to give up smoking is just have a pipe of herb every time the craving for a ciggarette arises, although because SWIM normally smokes cannabis with tobacco his habit is on off. But if SWIM smokes herb without bacci, for a few days straight the withdrawels from the nicotine is almost non existant after SWIM has smoked for a few days. SWIM can never touch a cigarette when he his high.

Re: The I challenge someone to kick an addiction with swim thread

Sparkles gave up caffeine and had no long term problems. She did find stopping abruptly gave her bad headaches. Her doc suggested alternating decaffeinated coffee with normal coffee and gradually reducing. It worked. Most people don't realise that coffee can give such awful W/Ds.
OK Spare Chaynge...Sparkles is on ya case mate. She's getting patches from her doc on Friday, by Saturday morning she WILL be a non smoker.
She's terrified by the prospect...doesn't know why, but is gonna take the leap anyway. Can Spare Chaynge relate how they felt, cravings and how different they feel now, after just three days? Thanks.
Cannabis Sam.
Good idea, but Sparkles can't use any mind altering substance, she knows if she does the needle is not that far away.
Take care.
Sparkles.

Sparkles is stockin' up with donuts for her non smoking life...

Re: The I challenge someone to kick an addiction with swim thread

I really wouldn't call nicotine a minor addiction!

My panda finally got that monkey off his back less than five months ago, otherwise he would take you up on the offer. He had one relapse in an airport bar (he was distressed and in a bad mood) where he had a few drunken cigarettes, but otherwise he doesn't even think about smoking anymore.

My panda found that he was far less likely to want a cigarette if he was stoned. Unfortunately, almost all of his - admittedly copious - cannabis consumption was in spliff form, so he still would end up smoking quite a bit of tobacco. Toking a bit would also have the advantage of attenuating the psychological craving for the sensation of smoking as well as helping with any physical cravings..

Sorry .... guess this isn't helping the thread.

This brings back some memories. The best for my panda was undoubtedly the first cigarette of the day, consumed after a hearty breakfast with coffee. Close second would be the cig my panda would have on his study break during an intense amphetamine fueled study session. Should say cigs I guess, as the panda would have several back to back (adderall... *sigh*) before going back for another couple of hours of productivity.

The smoking after working out is also a good one, though it tends to make my panda feel guilty.

Its nice he can remember stuff like this now without feeling an urge to have a cigarette.

The human mind has an amazing capacity for rationalization and self-deception

Try to focus on the bad taste you mentioned. One time when my panda was relapsing he would try to concentrate on the horrible taste that overtook his palate when he had the initial cig (it a brand he hates bummed from someone else, which was handy). The next one he had he focused really hard on the nasty aspects of the flavour and found he couldn't take more than one or two puffs before tossing it. This wasn't enough to prevent him from starting up again (alcohol and stimulants are very effective at eliminating any qualms one may have about returning to smoking), but it made it considerably more difficult for a time.

Ohhh, after eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, OJ and coffee ... that would definitely be the best cig. The problem was always that my hedgehog wanted to smoke right when he woke up, so he always kinda "blew his load" on the first one, instead of waiting it out until after breakfast. Ahem.

Heheh, your response in turn brings back some memories. My hedgehog was not much of a smoker in college, but did like to smoke whenever copious amounts of adderall were consumed as well.

The most embarrassing moment of his life: drinking a ton of coffee, snorting a bunch of adderall, and chain smoking right before having to go into a 50 minute presentation comparing the European derivatives exchange markets with American ones, 40 minutes of which he was giving. Half way through, at his 10 minute break, he bolted out of the room and threw up all over his dress shirt and tie from the nausea of smoking too much combined with the adderall, and had to come back in in a T shirt and finish the presentation. Despite being unbelievably embarrassed, the outward facing blade of the double edged stimulants-sword played its part, and my hedgehog was hyped up enough to be able to play it totally cool, so it worked out very well in the end actually. Not a good smoking/adderall memory though.

yes..swim can. quitting has always been very hard from swim. But, this time swim got so sick and is still sick that the idea of smoking is just gross. Its not like a flu like sickness. Instead every night his throat hurts and he can not sleep because he has to cough stuff up even with otc cough medication..He just woke up and his throat is soar from it now.. It is really weird. The soar throat will be gone in an hour or so but will come back again right before he goes to bed.

You see that's just it...Sparkles feels about smokes the way some (ain't mentioning no names here) feel about heroin. Sorta love affair really. She likes nothing better than lighting up after a meal (especially a good one) or after a busy morning, with a coffee. She's made a ritual out of it.
She's always seen it as an ok addiction cos it's legal.
Sparkles.

Just one question...what does she do after awesome sex if smoking ain't an option...give it up?

The comparison between nicotine and heroin, which has their addictiveness almost level, worries Sparkles. She's not looking forward to kicking it, it upsets her just thinking about it.
Yeah...she hasn't had much need for after sex smokes lately...but she wants the option.

Sparkles.

Did you get sick (nauseous) when you smoked the cig? I remember after not having any tobacco for 2 weeks and then had a cig with my cousin, I was very nauseous and almost puked.

On another note, still going strong with the no caffeine.

Well no but Red Rock does take prescribed Vyvanse daily so that might have something to do with it. He did get minor headaches the first two days though.

Re: The I challenge someone to kick an addiction with swim thread

when swim temporarily quit, he just stopped buyin packs and would bum off a friend now an then. Once he felt like a mooch, he bummed less and less, and eventually stopped all togeather. As for kickin a habit with someone, swim's been lookin for this for a while. He's been lookin for someone he can fall in love with and they can suffer and battle it out togeather. That driving force would be more than enough to get him to quit anything. Came close, but she decided to be a bitch after all these plans and promises. Sorry for the sob story, just had to get that off swim's chest.
