Merremia Dissecta (Alamo Vine)

SWIM spent the afternoon picking the seed pods of this Morning Glory family member, and wanted to verify that it did indeed contain LSA before ingesting the seeds. He tried finding the information on google, but was unable to find a creditable source. Below are some images of the flower and vine.

Any information you provide will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Merremia Dissecta (Alamo Vine)

it does not seem to contain any LSA's, but does have some interesting tropanes.

Quote:
The occurrence and distribution of tropane and biogenetically related pyrrolidine alkaloids in 18 Merremia species of paleo-, neo-, and pantropical occurrence have been studied. The extensive GC–MS study included members of almost all sections of the genus and has been carried out with epigeal vegetative parts as well as with roots. It comprises altogether 74 tropanes and 13 pyrrolidines including nicotine. Along with datumetine known already from a solanaceous species, the study led to the isolation (from M. dissecta and M. guerichii, respectively) and structure elucidation (spectral data) of four novel 3α-acyloxytropanes, merresectines A–D: 3α-(4-methoxybenzoyloxy)nortropane (A), 3α-kurameroyloxytropane (B), 3α-nervogenoyloxytropane (C), 3α-[4-(β-d-glucopyranosyloxy)-3-methoxy-5-(3-methyl-2-butenyl)benzoyloxy]tropane (β-d-glucoside of D). Moreover, the novel 3α,6β-di-(4-methoxybenzoyloxy)tropane (merredissine) has been isolated from M. dissecta and structurally elucidated. In addition the structures of datumetine and merresectine A could be confirmed by synthesis. Spectral data for two known 3α-acyloxytropanes (merresectine E β-d-glucoside, 4′-dihydroconsabatine) and one known 3β-acyloxytropane (concneorine) are documented for the first time. The structures of three further merresectines (F-H) have been determined by mass spectrometry. Furthermore, the linkage (2′,3- and 2′,4-, respectively) of two position isomer N-methylpyrrolidinylhygrines was proven by synthesis. The results of the study contribute to the solution of infrageneric taxonomic problems. Whereas all species yield pyrrolidine alkaloids without suitably differentiating results the diverging occurrence of tropane alkaloids leads to three groups of sections: (1) taxa free of tropanes, (2) taxa with simple tropanes, and (3) taxa with merresectines in addition to simple tropanes.
Chemotaxonomy of the pantropical genus Merremia (Convolvulaceae) based on the distribution of tropane alkaloids

Merremia dissecta (Convolvulaceae): Condiment, Medicine, Ornamental, and Weed—A Review Seems it might have been used as a sedative.

Would like to point out that this is new ground for modern man, and should be approached slowly and with caution. Hopefully someone with some chem background will be along to help sort this out a bit better.

Nice digging. It's seems there might be some potential.

Re: Merremia Dissecta (Alamo Vine)

It grows all around SWIM. The seeds do not smell of almonds, so I don't think their cyanide content is very high, that is if it contains any at all.

Life has been kind of boring lately, maybe swim will swallow a couple and see what happens. There are a couple doctors and a paramedic in the apartment complex, and they trip sat for swim when he tried brugmansia. SWIM won't try for a week or so, as he has been on a DXM+wellbutrin binge and needs some time to flush his system.

SWIM swallowed 10 seeds and nothing happened. He will be trying 30 seeds later tonight.

Re: Merremia Dissecta (Alamo Vine)

WOAH!!!

30 seeds of Baby Woodrose is highly dangerous if not lethal. This is NOT a safe titration. if 10 didn't do anything, try 12, and go up by two. Make sure to take time inbetween experiments, at least a week or so.

Re: Merremia Dissecta (Alamo Vine)

SWIM has decided on a less crazy 15 seeds. He has also harvested a bunch of leaves from the vine, because he read on google that they were used as a sedative. It did not, however, say if the leaves were smoked or ingested. SWIM will probably try ingestion first, as smoking an unknown chemical is not the brightest of ideas.

Odio added 53 Minutes and 52 Seconds later...

SWIM has just ingested The 15 seeds. He used his teeth to crush them, then swallowed the particles. What a brutal taste they have.

Odio added 481 Minutes and 16 Seconds later...

Chewing up and swallowing 15 seeds did not produce any gastrointestinal discomfort. SWIM had a slight change in vision, but no noticeable CEVs. The effects only lasted about ten minutes, and then went away completely.

SWIM accidentally grabbed the wrong cannister of leaves and packed his bong with the dried M. Dissecta leaves. The smoke is very smooth and does not really have a taste. A lot of smoke is produced when the leaves burn. Upon discovering that he had smoked the wrong leaves, and noticing that nothing negative had happened, he started smoking them some more. Nothing noticable happend while smoking the leaves from the bong, so SWIM figured the fun stuff was probably highly water soluable. Smoking the leaves out of a bowl also produced no effects. As one last test, SWIM put down his torch lighter just inccase he was overshooting the boiling point and destroying the chemicals.

Smoking the dried leaves out of a bowl with a BIC produced an energy surge equal to chugging 10 redbulls. Once swim stops shaking, he will smoke another bowl and see if the same results are achieved.

Once again...CHILL OUT! An experimenter should be taking at least a few days rest between experiments.

Look, no one knows exactly what is in this stuff, there's a chance it could be dangerous.

Trying 20 seeds today.
