Experiences - Tussionex, Xanax, Soma, Phenobarbital ;D

Recently, SWIM was prescribed a bottle of tussionex (hydrocodone 10mg per 5 ml, and clorpheniramine 8mg per 5ml)

after he tryied a double dose of it, and being completely opiate naive, SWIM felt a slight warm, sleepy sensation, and feeling good about life, no worries at all... it was nice, it definetly reminded SWIM of xanax (which he is also prescribed to for anxiety along with 20mg of lexapro)

So a few nights ago, after acquiring some somas, and phenobarbitals from one of his friends, he had plans to meet up at a local hookah lounge with some friends, and it seemed like a good time to chill out, enjoy the pleasant effects of the drugs he had

That night, here are the ingested drugs

- Tussionex, 25ml
-Soma, 1 tab (350 mg)
-Xanax, 1.5 mg
- phenobarbital ~65 mg

this combination resulted in a very relaxed state, and made the night extremely enjoyable, conversation flowed easily, and thoughts of future stress disappeared completely!

Keep in mind, SWIM weighs 140 lbs, and has a low opiate tolerance, a fairly low benzo tolerance, and the phenobarbital and soma were new drugs for SWIM

--a side note, swim had also taken 20mg lexapro, the same day, though I don't think any of the aforementioned substances have significant reactions with SSRI's

SWIM highly recommends this mixture, possibly with increased dosages of soma, xanax, and certainly hydrocodone for those with a greater tolerances, but most definitely not alcohol, SWIM finds that mixing alcohol and benzos leads him to black hole nights, and embarrassing stories of what really happened, and SWIM has also read that opiates and alcohol do not go together easily

however, have fun if you have the ingredients for this!

Sounds like the perfect recipe for respiratory failure.... SWIY combined benzodiazpine, barbiturate, opioid, and an opioid-like skeletal muscle relaxant....

I'm baffled. Please tell SWIY to use caution if he ever plans on taking these substances together again! Increasing doses is a horrible idea, and this should never be recommended to anyone... it's just dangerous.

Alright, well, if thats the case, thank you for pointing it out, if you're right, I definitely wont try this particular combination again. but can you tell me which particular drugs in this combination cause the greatest overall danger of the mix?

Combining any of them really...

Benzodiazepines in conjunction with barbiturates are notorious for causing people to go into comas in overdose situations.
Allow me to explain more deeply; they both work on GABAa receptors, however at different binding sites. This means that benzodiazepines and barbiturates can act upon the exact same cell at the same time... making it dangerous. Benzodiazepines increase the firing rate of the neuron, while barbiturates both increase firing rate and widen the channel the calcium ions travel on... allowing more to flow out.


Any GABAergic agent and opioid pose a threat as well. Respiratory repression is the primary concern with this combo. One can wake up from a drug-induced coma... one cannot wake up once they've stopped breathing.

Opioid + opioid combinations are not particularly dangerous, but benzodiazpines and barbiturates should be enjoyed alone. Tell SWIY to have fun and be safe!

hopefully due to this thread other people who consider this combination will shy away in favor of a safer one!

To be fair opiates and benzos don't go together too easily either. For someone inexperienced this was a pretty silly combination

Completely opiate naive, and 25 ml @ 10 mg/5 ml = 50 mg hydrocodone....*whistles*

I doubt swiy even felt the relatively small doses of carisoprodol and phenobarb. I agree w/ Boca Bitch. Recipe for respiratory failure. I say never combine anything until you know precisely what each component will do to you separately.

Because if, on a scale of drowsiness from 1-10, Xanax is a 4 and hydrocodone is a 3, taking them together will not make you a level 7 drowsy, it'll make you a level 12 or more.

ah, yes SWIM certainly had a nice night, altough if he had known how much danger he was actually in, he might not have been so blissfully relaxed

and as far as opiate tolerance goes, SWIM wasn't completely naive, and seemed to have a previous natural tolerance to hydrocodone, and as said, had previous experience with phenobarbital and xanax multiple times

don't get me wrong, SWIM now understands (as well as anyone reading this thread should) that this is definitely an ill-advised combo to say the least, and not one to be repeated

although, out of curiosity, SWIM would be interested in hearing what you all would say a good dose (alone of course) of phenobarb would be? for future reference
