Drug info - Out Of Date Mexicana Magic Truffles!

hello forum i have some questions to ask on magic truffles i would like your help and wisdom on ^_^

My friend SWIM tells me this:

i recently bought some mexicana magic truffles from amsterdam and brung them back to the UK

i took some when i got back, was just as i remembered back in the day quite enjoyable

however the sell/use by date was 15-8-09, i consumed them on 04/08/09

and kept 3 boxes for a upcoming festival on 28/08/09 in the uk,

there still in my fridge, but im looking for information to see if by the date of 28-08-09, almost 2 weeks after the use/sell by date, would these truffles still be ok to eat? or would they make me ill?

i did plan to dry them out over the last 2 weeks but kept forgetting with work etc, so im hoping i havent wasted these beautiful truffles

what is your opinion? would you think there ok to eat? or not so good ?

That being said, as long as they look fine, they'll be safe, no mold, no rot. If they are dried, they will be set to go.

this post was an exact copy of what i sent your admin previously, he just told me to copy it onto forum for a more detailed explanation of the effects f this, he didnt mention weather to re edit it nor did he not mention so i appologise if i did something wrong, ill be more weary on fuure posts,

the shrooms look a little de-hydrated then they did, and 1 batch which my m8 took did have a full coating of furry mescul s/p? on them and he tripped hard but reported a slight stomach discomfort for an hour or 2 which passed,

as long as they dont turn green i guess ill take them at the festival and report back, ill prob get the shits lol which aint good in festival toilets but some immodium instants whould cure this..

A kid came over to SWIM's house a few years ago and found an almost empty box of truffles that had been lying around swim's house for at least a few months. They had started to fuzz up long before but the fuzz had stopped growing. There were only about 1/8 of a dose left inside. He ate them and at a later date reported that he had indeed tripped off them. He may or may not have vomited, I can't recall. He seemed happy enough with the results.

SWIM once chanced it and ate half a 'supertruffle' - about 5g worth of a 10g truffle, that had started to fuzz up. It had been bought approximately 2 weeks beforehand and was not refrigerated since then. Twas the most potent bit of trufflage he'd ever experienced, equivalent to 20-30g I would estimate. No illness or any negative side effects (aside from tripping FAR too hard; getting stuck in time-loops, visual telescoping and contraction, and having a massively, outrageously enjoyable time while watching the trip-out bowling scene with the "Just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in" song in the Big Lebowski).

I speculate that in some cases *possibly* any fuzzing that occurs could be the truffle itself returning to active mycelial growth after having returned to room temperature.

That's just a theory though which is a result of SWIM's single personal experience and the reported experience of that kid. I'm no mycologist. While I think it's possible this could happen, it's also possible that another fungus entirely could begin to grow on the aging truffle and prove toxic and YMMV quite a bit.

That said, I don't imagine there'd be any problems if it was refrigerated and didn't look or smell any different than when it was purchased.
