are you a drug using musician?

swim's been using drugs since swim was 15 and playing music since swim was 13. It seems that there's a strong connection between creative/musical personalities and drug users. Swim likes using uppers (adderall) when he practices or plays shows. he also smokes cigarettes, weed, heroin, and takes all sorts of pills. the drugs don't necessarily have anything to do with the music (uppers just help swim concentrate), but they seem to go hand in hand. would anybody care to share their musical drug habits or insight into why drugs and music click so well?

Lightbulb Re: are you a drug using musician?

swim finds some drugs work, others definitely do not! swim plays guitar ranging from generic blues to hard rock to neoclassical baroque and roll so needs to be in a good condition to pull off the songs he likes playing. in general, alcohol is a no-no since every beer he has just slows him down further and further until his playing is just a mess of misconstrued notes that barely resemble music. cannabis is similar in the retardation of finger movement, but atleast he know what he is doing, he just becomes frustrated because he essentially cannot play to the level he knows he can play at. So in this case he usually just plays lazy music like slow blues, or chord progressions.

However, there are some interesting drugs that seem to enhance his playing, phenethylamines for example. 2CE and 2CI seem to not only expand swim's creative mind into exploring a wider range of music styles, but also his physical ability and agility on the fretboard are somewhat enhanced rather than detrimented! not only this, the notes just seem to flow out of his fingers with little thought involved and it almost seems like the drugs are playing the music, not swim. he is just mesmerized at how capable he has become and how beautiful it all sounds.

Ketamine is an odd drug as it seems to inspire his creativity and love for music, but does make it frustrating to play. swim often cant even press down the strings with his fingers and if swiy is a guitar player and knows the term 'action', which relates to the depth between the string and the fretboard, the action seems to become endless and makes playing very hard indeed!

stimulants and MDPV in particular since it is swim's SOC (stim of choice) should in theory make swim play faster, but instead seem to just give him a nervous jitter that hardly improves his style and sound, so would not recommend them for gigs etc.

if swiy is looking for musical creativity, try a psychedelic, but dont expect to be able to play the things swiy hears in his head. perhaps just carry a dictaphone and hum any inspired melodies that can be returned to when in a more capable state. if however swiy is looking for a drug to enhance his capabilities, much like nootropics supposedly increase brain power, swim recommends not much else than caffeine and as previously mentioned 2CE or 2CI, but dont count on it! everyone is different and there is the high probability that swiy will just end up staring at his wildly coloured guitar in all its beauty, rather than actually playing anything with any musical beauty at all

Thank SWIY for sharing his experiences. Can you ask SWIY, which dosages of 2c-e he usually measures out for creative activities ? I would imagine, that if SWIY took a dosage high enough to create a trip it would not work to play the instrument/use the voice/write the text/etc. "adequately". Is it a threshold dosage or a normal trippy dosage ?

Re: are you a drug using musician?

swim plays guitar but is more of a studio musician than stage, although he likes Oxycontin, and finds it does help his abbility slightly, on the other hand it also has him setting unrealistic goals for completing anything and get's sidetracked easily

IMO oxy's, or low doses of heroin would only be good for performing, I think marijuanna is by far the best drug for creating music,.. and I dont find it hindering on my playing style
