I'm just wondering what the typical abuse for prescription drugs is?

Is it higher or lower than say opiates, such as Heroin, or Amphetamines like Cocaine?

Are there any specific countries where abuse particularly high?

How are Prescription drugs typical taken in an abuse way? I hear such things as chewing prescription tablets leads to a hit, is that true? or does it stick to the typical methods, such as smoking, snorting or injecting?


I'm looking at specific drugs such as Tramadol, Morphine and any such others you might know of.

Ugh.. You've got A LOT to learn...... First off, Cocaine is NOT an amphetamine. Two completely different drugs, they just both act as stimulants. A little confused on what you mean by typical abuse. Like what drugs? And as far as methods of injestion, it varies between the individual and the pill. Some simply swallow, while some find insufflation to be a more efficient method, and very few inject pills, since very few people inject drugs as it is. Smoking is rare, unless it's oxycodone, but even then most insufflate them. Comparing the highs depends on the pill. The common opiate is weaker then heroin, but if you take enough I'd assume that they could be comparable. And amphetamine (in the US) most commonly comes in an A.D.D. pill, and isn't quite as strong as methamphetamine. There's no pills out there that are like a cocaine high.

Secondly, SWIM has a nice little story for SWIY. A friend of SWIM recently got out of hospital after a chest operation and was prescribed Tramadol. SWIM's friend no longer needed the Tramadol after a while and still had plenty left. Anyway, one night, SWIM's friend offered SWIM some, and SWIM was curious, because he had never abused analgesics before. SWIM had 4 tablets (exceeding the therapeutic dosage). He noticed some initial euphoria, followed by excessive drowsiness and thirst. Overall not a worthwhile high. SWIM would recommend SWIY to be extremely careful with abusing prescription medication, because with some of them, the amount needed to receive any kind of high is extremely close to the amount needed to send you to hospital. Prescription drugs are only available for prescription because they can be extremely dangerous in the wrong hands.

chewing slow release tablets makes them into instant release tablets, so will get all the dose at once. Depends on drug whether or not will get 'hit', but in case of opiates will most likely get buzz of standard all-day dose. Also chance of OD, so research dosages (use the fancy search engine), in fact research any drug there is possibility of consuming, is good to be wise beforehand.

My dirty hampster finds it just as easy to buy script pills illegally as is to purchase 'normal' illegal drugs, much easier in case of opiates. But is very relative thing, depending on social group one knows/location where one lives.

Interesting question about which is abused more, swim would guess illegal drugs as MJ is so prevalent.
