Addiction - Smoking to help stay off heroin

SWIM smoked a pack of Newports a day from about age 14 to 18, then stopped one day (aside from when drinking or drugging) when he wanted to and had no problem quitting.

All the junkies he knows as a heroin addict always joked that he was the only person in the history of heroin not to be a smoker too.

He started again at his last rehab, pack a day or more for over 2 months, and found it helped a lot calming his nerves and with the PAWS shit.

SWIM stopped again the day he left his last rehab. Again no problem quitting - nicotine has no addictive hold over him whatsoever.

He started smoking again while he is on suboxone, and finds that it helps a lot with the cravings and shit for heroin (suboxone does nothing for his cravings). When he starts freaking out or gets super anxious, smoking helps a shitload. It also helps with that "I need a treat" mentality that is built into heroin addicts.

Anyone else notice a similar effect?
