Psychic Protection and Barriers - useful for preventing bad trips?

I was thinking of this today.

Do any of you think that a possible way to prevent "bad" trips would be to practise creating "psychic" barriers, or protection measures, before tripping? Or to understand how to effectively protect ones self and mind from energy vampires, negativity, and bad vibes?
