Drug info - How to know if this is real or not?

So SWIM is new to O has has recently found some substance that he was told was opium. It is a Brown tar substance with a sweet aroma and a good taste.

Is this tar really opium or some sort of flower fragnance that SWIM was tricked into believing it was opium?

Hmm the good taste is worrying. Sweet aroma? Seems suspect too. SWIY should try a little bit. Look up smoking opium, and start off with a piece half the size of a match-head and work SWIY way up.

Real opium has an acrid smell, so... Opium is only flowery or sweet smelling when smoked. Also opiate alkaloids are extremely bitter. SWIM thinks SWIYou got played.

SWIM thinks that if SWIY has already parted with cash for this product, then SWIY may as well see if it melts/vaporises right. If it does smell the vapour and try to judge if it seems 'right'.

If you bought yet, then SWIY shouldn't. SWIM is a bit iffy about buying opium from anyone TBH, just its so uncommon that its most likely to be a scam in his opinion.

SWIM thinks its a matter of opinion as to how CFO smells, as he quite likes it actually, and the smell coming from his oven ATM reminds him of burned chocolate, like if you left poptarts in the toaster too long.

He wouldn't really describe it as 'sweet' but he will say there there is a sweetness to it.

SWIM seconds the decision to try it. He, too, finds the smell of it to be a bit flowery and sweet. While it's near impossible to describe the smell exactly, he could definitely see these adjectives being used. Since swiy already bought it, he should give it a try. Sure, he may have gotten hosed, but its certainly worth a shot.

Only try a tiny bit mind! Less than a match-head sized amount. Tiny little piece. SWIM advises you sniff the smoke first, to see if the stuff is genuinely dangerous. Then try inhaling another tiny amount. If after trying both of these SWIY is not coughing horribly or smelling something nasty, then try a proper hit.

Make sure you tell SWIY to do both the first tests. SWIM doesn't know what one might be able to pass off as opium, but his gut instinct says industrial furnature wax, which SWIM feels is going to do bad things to SWIYs lungs, and would explain the floral scent. There's almost nothing that bastard dealers could cut into opium that wouldn't be hardful.

SWIM reminds SWIY not to deal with this dude again for any purpose if he has burned you. He will do it again. And if SWIY is in the market for opiates, he may offer you stuff like unmarked pills that can easilly cause SWIY to OD.

SWIYou could test it's solubility. Furniture wax or incense wouldn't dissolve well or they'd contain lots of oils. The sweet taste is extremely alarming IMO. Alkaloids that make up opium is big percentages are by definition bitter. Anyone that has ever chewed up a painkiller would know this. Be sure before SWIYou puts anything in his body.

Actually dissolving in water really should occured to SWIM before hand, kudos to SWIY for remembering.

All the alkaloids in opium should dissolve in warm water fairly redily, but not a lot else would be able to.

If it dissolves quite well, then you are probably ok, if there is a 'layer' on the surface, they are waxes and so forth, and if there are particles floating in it that refuse to dissolve, then that's something else. If you get a lot of things that won't dissolve, run it through a coffee filter or such and re-evaporate the result.

Although that's time consuming as hell you could consider that a definitive 'test'.

Opium tastes very bitter, not sweet in any sense of the word, apart from the effects!

Actually SWIM disagrees with you davestate. SWIM recently made poppy seed tea from 3.75lbs of poppy and cooked down the resulting three washes into a single measuring cup and they have a distinctly sweet smell, and a sweet taste followed by a bitter after-taste.

Even eating his CFO just raw is fine to him, or even letting it dissolve in his mouth.

He finds the taste to be far from bitter.

The alkoloids themselves do indeed taste bitter as anything, as anyone who has drunk CWE'd codeine will tell you, but opium, or at the very least SWIM's opium just has a slightly weird aftertaste.

God, really?!? SWIM used to drink codeine, and it was bitter, but raw opium is on a whole different level...
SWIM agrees though that poppy pod tea tastes sorta sweet, especially if lemon juice is added. Definitely not better, but not pleasant!

Maybe SWIM just has weird taste-buds, or his Opium has some hither-to unknown additive.

But over the past six-ish months he has made CFO quite a few times and right from the first occasion he was able to just open wide and eat.

It started because SWIM's first O batch was very sticky, because he hadn't dried it quite enough. Still, being a first timer he was declaring victory anyway. He was moving it with a large spoon, upon which there was some small amount of O that was difficult to remove because it was sticky.

He licked it off, and got high, and it tasted good.
