Why is DMT so unpopular?

I feel as if DMT doesn't get the attention and praise that it should. this is sort of a bad thing and good at the same time. But i feel that something as powerful and enlightening as DMT should be given attention. I think the fact that it isnt recreational has a lot to play a part in why it isn't popular. When I used to talk to my friends (drug users and non drug users) and mentioned DMT they would all say "what the fuck is DMT?" and then i would explain what it did and then it instantly became interesting to them. Why do you think DMT is so much less popular than other psychedelics?
