So, as governments push more and more for these so called "legal highs" to be banned, salvia is looking more and more like it's in the radar - even if only a minor player at this point.

It has already been banned in a few places but it seems that larger, country-wide laws are to come.

My question is, while it is still legal, what can we do to minimise the inconvenience to cautious, spiritual users of this herb if and when it is banned in SWIY's area of residence?

SWIM already plans to start growing a couple of plants to keep on the side when he begins his next year as a student. He doesn't plan to actually use much but would like the possibility there if it is banned.

He doesn't think there will be much risk in that since it is fairly inconspicuous as a plant.

from what swim reads, salvia divinorum (once it's established a root system) is almost impossible to kill and would grow in spite of you, but only 1:100 seeds germinate and they are miniscule.

luckily they can be cloned.

I'd love to grow a few of these in my garden.. but getting hands on one isn't as easy as most plants, legal or illegal.

My understanding is that there is a fairly easy process to turn salvinorin-a into herkinorin, a potent mu-agonist (read: ordinary opiate) that currently is not being published due to concerns it'd make salvia D. illegal.

If so, it might be a case of a "Mexican standoff": DEA can't move for fear that this procedure would be made public in the event of salvia being illegal, and the herkinorin proponents can't make their TEK public for fear that the DEA would then have no more reason to fear prohibition.

where the hell can swim get these seeds! I doubt a store would sell the seeds of their cash-crop.

Salvia doesn't have seeds (usually). You buy cuttings.

This is very interesting. The synthesis, SWIM has also heard, was easy but details were not given.

Salvia will produce seeds rarely and even when it does, the germination ratios are very low. The chance of growing from seed, while possible, is more difficult and time consuming rather than taking a cutting.
