Re: Theres a little dried up flower in one of my pods!?

This cool cat I know gets those in a decent amount of his medium sized pods (dunno, if that makes a difference). He usually uses them with the rest of his pod heads when grinding them up, but is unsure as to whether they have any significance.

A hipster I know found these "dried up flowers" to be a normal find in his pods & had no effect on the potency of the resulting tea/crushed pod stew or what have you.

paragoric should urgently read the rules.
Re: Theres a little dried up flower in one of my pods!?

My goldfish was told it has to do with hen and chick genetics, as the inside often looks just like the chicks on the outside of h and c pods, don't chisel that in stone, though....they usually are found in some of the better pods, though

SWIM saw this post several weeks ago. He has found a "flower" like object on occasion in some of his dried pods as well. But yesterday he found another one (see attachment), so he decided to post this.

SWIM doesn't think that it is just necessarily with Hen & Chicks. He found his in a medium sized dried Tasmanian pod. He often gets a pod (about 1 in 20) that has the seeds stuck to the inside wall of the pod and has a strong earthy smell to it. When he found this "flower", it was from a pod like that which was just described. SWIM researched this for over an hour and found basically nothing except for the following about fruit...

Quote:
The wall of the fruit, developed from the ovary wall of the flower, is called the pericarp. The pericarp is often differentiated into two or three distinct layers called the exocarp (outer layer - also called epicarp), mesocarp (middle layer), and endocarp (inner layer). In some fruits, especially simple fruits derived from an inferior ovary, other parts of the flower (such as the floral tube, including the petals, sepals, and stamens), fuse with the ovary and ripen within it. The plant hormone ethylene causes ripening. When such other floral parts are a significant part of the fruit, it is called an accessory fruit. Since other parts of the flower may contribute to the structure of the fruit, it is important to study flower structure to understand how a particular fruit forms.

Fruits are so diverse that it is difficult to devise a classification scheme that includes all known fruits. Many common terms for seeds and fruit are incorrectly applied, a fact that complicates understanding of the terminology. Seeds are ripened ovules; fruits are the ripened ovaries or carpels that contain the seeds.
SWIM is no botanist, but maybe this is what is happening with these particular poppy pods (capsules).

Since there is almost no information on this oddity to be found on the Internet (except for one other site that also briefly mentions Hens and Chicks in an unrelated topic), any good info would be appreciated.

Re: Theres a little dried up flower in one of my pods!?

SWIM has found those pretty often in certain orders of dried pods he has purchased, but he isn't sure of any difference in the potency or quality of the pods, when this occcurs..

^^I guess this post was cloaked.^^
Granted, that first picture of the "flower" was pretty shitty. But here is another shitty picture of the same "flower" next to a ruler for size comparison. Out of hundreds and hundreds of pods, SWIM has found maybe 5 or 6 of these.

Re: Theres a little dried up flower in one of my pods!?

SWIM highly doubts there was a dried flower inside the pod. Unless the pod was heavily deformed, this is near impossible as they're two very different stages. If it was a H+C it would be a deformity associated with the mutated H+C gene. Not likely though.

Re: Theres a little dried up flower in one of my pods!?

SWIM got a few pods like that in his first batch ever, and just ground it all up with the pods. Resulting tea was very nice. SWIM thinks the flower-like things are good sign, but remember it was the first time SWIM ever ingested morphine.

As stated, SWIM has had numerous pods that have a little dried up flower inside the pods, along with seeds. Next time he finds one, he'll post a pic of it, still attached to the inside of the pod.

It basically looks to be growing outside of where the stem (with the little hard nub) enters the pod. From that part, a small flower develops, and when cracking them open to dump the seeds, one can sometimes find these little flowers. They might be called something else, but they definitely look like a little dried flower inside the swollen/ripe pods.

My Little dog said that she has found many of those little buggers in her day and just tossed them aside. I told her next time to show it to me and maybe i'll post up a pic.

Last batch that SWIM got had quite a few of those little dried up flowers. SWIM just chopped them up with the rest of the pod and enjoyed
