Question Heroin Users Self-Medicate / Psychological?

Hello,

After reading numerous posts from other swimmers here in the forum, swim has noticed that some swimmers have chose heroin as their own way to self medicate to use due to depression or other disorders. For example, most people with ADD will also be more likely to be daily weed smokers due to relaxing effect on the brain. The same effect can be achieved from methylphenidate which is more accepted by society.

Have these swimmers tried other medications that would be better suited for their problems?

If the swimmer has other underlying psychological issues that aren't being addressed could this be leading to higher failure rate in becoming clean if one would truly desire?
