1 Million Dollars - What Would You Buy?

If you magically found a million dollars (or the equivalence in your
currency) what would you buy (obviously BESIDES DRUGS).

I think I would buy a swimming pool, and convert it into one giant
gbong. Then a motorcycle, I've always wanted one. Maybe I
would just use the money to live, just traveling around the country on
my motorcycle.

Or I could always throw the most badass festival and be able to hire all my favorite living bands to come.

Or I always wanted to buy that aircraft carrier, and turn it into an island/drug lab and travel the seven seas.

Or a fighting arena for small children to train in, and be fought by the members of this forum.

What would you buy?

Maybe we should restate it to a billion dollars. A million doesn't go as far as you might think. Festivals of large caliber cost millions, aircraft carriers cost hundreds of millions, and I know that my personal child fighting arena cost like a hundred thousand - and that was before I bought the children to fill it.

I do get the point of the thread, man. I'm just joking around. It's just when I was younger I thought that a million would do all of these wonderful things and now that I am getting older I am realizing what inflation has done and what a million dollars is actually worth in real terms these days.

Unlimited supply of cash would definitely get me to buy an island or some sort of custom barge where people could live truly free. I'm not an anarchist, I just sincerely believe that if you get a couple hundred intelligent people together, law would be unnecessary. People in that situation would want to do good. Have you seen thesketches of Freedom Ship? That is the one I would buy.

Anyways it's an interesting thread. I can't wait to see what other people would buy - aside from the ship I would probably buy a helper monkey. That would be sweet.

dooh weeel if i wuz 2 hav a mill bukz i wud bi a brain...an kindeys...an a nu lever...an..an..an..

in case youre wondering -yes im wasted

EDIT-gawd,i do write some dumb crap...now to answer the question:

if i had a substantial amount of money i would pursue my dream-this may sound funny-i would quit my job,buy some land near ancient tikal or palenque and excavate&explore until the end of my time...and i think i wouldnt need any drugs i would be high on my dreams...and the local plantlife, which luckily consists of a lot plants of the Mimosa and Phalaris family

also if i was 10yrs older i would definitely say the same as woodman, but i still lie myself that i gotta live my dreams....and there is always the question will we live to see the golden years?Edited by: daeron

I'ld take a trip to Switzerland and open an account
there because I wouldn't want the government here
knowing about it.

Then I'ld look into the legalities of foreign
investments and possibility of establishing a trust
fund, abroad.

With any luck, by the time I retire in 20 years, that 1
million could turn into 5-10 Million.

I wouldn't want to look back on my life and remember
that I once had an opportunity to make my golden
years rewarding, and blew it all for a brief moment of
fun.

SWIM would buy some real estate in a warm country and would hire a gardener to grow him weed and magic mushrooms. He'd happily live out his days in that kind of atmosphere.

I would also use it to make more money. This is coming from the fact that one mil just isnt enough. So when invest and make it 100 mil, well then.

I would absolutly attempt to obtain some island of freedom. Going off of what someone else said, couldnt it be entirely possible to use a house boat or some yacht to house a lab. Then make all the chems you wanted risk free in international waters. I guess the trick would be getting back to shore without customs finding it all.

put it all on black in a roulette game. I dono, i guess i would
find a nice place where i could do whatever I want, and grow
stuff. Take up chemestry at a college and make my own
stuff. I would become a shulgin jr. Or buy zeppelins old
touring plane and stock it with plenty of fun and just fly around the
world. Go to india and take a meditation class. I wouldnt
have it for long, i would imagine all the shit i could do and then
waste it all.

Well Id beef up my Roth IRA by 100k. Perhaps Place 150k in stock. Real estate is always nice perhaps a 4 unit multiplex in a nice area 325k. Another 100k a piece in unrevokable trustfunds for my 2 kids. That puts me at 775k spent so far. So another 125k in an offshore account just in case. The last 100 Id take 50k for mad money and the other half give to charity. Or maybe Id just take that last 25k and go to the Childrens Hospital and start handing out 50$'s to all the kids who knows.

uqlfy,

I ain't no accountant, but aren't you subject to
"windfall" tax?

...or are you assuming this is all "after tax" money?

Yes I am thinking its "after tax money". If it were taxed I'd beroughly a 625Knare not a millionare.

If I found 1 million cash and didnt report it(for sure someone would claim it) it would be slowly ever so slowly spent on bonds. Low yields but harder to trace given the timeframe involved.

But of course I'd rest safer knowing that the 375k intaxdollars was well spent on 50$ aa batteries and 100$ toilet seat covers for congress.

good god. what happened to imagination and fun dreams? this
is assuming you wouldn't get taxed and please stop saying that you
would invest or buy bonds. it's magical money. what is it
that you've always wanted to buy or do that until now a lack of money
has prevented you? sorry about the rant but i was upset that so
many people kept suggesting investment. what would you do after
you invested it?

Hey, man, I'm all for "Imagination and fun dreams."

You asked what we'ld do with $1 millon USD with
ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER RELAVENT
INFORMATION.

I didn't flame you.
I didn't call you names.
I didn't disrespect your interests on the topic.

I simply stated what "I" would do in the circumstance
that "YOU" provided.

I don't understand.

Where is the problem?

If I had a Million . . . Hmm.

I am not wealthy (in fact, just getting by). I am happy, not having much more than I need (and no Investments to help me through retirement). This way of living helps me focus on having a good time with what I have (instead of thinking that my life will only be great if I get some new Toy).

When I trip-over that chest with a Million dollars, I will give $900,000 of it away, and keep 100 for my retirement.

I know several people who are just barely making it (or, could be doing better with expensive Medicine). I would buy John a Medi-Van, so he can take himself and his Chair wherever he goes. This way, each time he goes anywhere, it won't have to be: (1) someone lifts him out of his Chair, (2) plops him in a car, (3) put the Chair in the trunk, (4) driving, (5) get the Chair out of the trunk, (6) lifting him out of the car, and (7) plop him in his Chair ... and that is only for a one-way trip.

Colleen cannot afford the Best medicine; she is making do. For a mere $3,000 a year, she will have more mobility, less pain, and think better.

And Victor has AIDS; I would like to send him home to Europe, so he can live with his Brother until he dies.

Money isn't everything. It IS, however, grease. It smooths things out in life. I need some of it myself. In this New World, it is exceedingly difficult to live with NO money. Gone forever are the days when a person could just live in a cave (now he would have to pay Property Tax on it).

I don't need too many more material possesions than I have now.
It would be nice if they were all paid for, so I'd pay off my debts.

I probably have way more material things than I need, as do most of us
if we honestly think about it. SO I'd stay in my small humble
house and pay it off.

Then invest the loot so it won't run out so quick, while I'm spening it
travelling the world doing and seeing all the stuff I always wanted to
do and see.

I think a large part of my travels would be what is becomming called
ecotourism. I would like to go and live with many different
entheogen using native cultures, staying with them a good long while,
several months with each group. I would want to be taken under a
shamen's wing at each place, taught to recognize and harvest the plants
they use, learn how to prepare the concoctions, and of course use their
medicine with them in their traditional ceremonies.

Actually, I'm a pretty old guy, 48 already, so maybe I don't need any
of my shit in the "first world", because it would probably take me the
rest of my life to visit and assimilate/learn about all the native
cultures and rituals I'm interested in. Might take me the rest of
my life to do all that, so I'd probably ditch all that shit and just
dissapear for a good long while, maybe forever.

Definitely either pay off my shit, or ditch it all, and travel the rest
of my days. Definitely get out of the rat race, and stay out of
it.
