Celebrating 1 year clean !
Swim was just browsing some old posts SWIM had made a few years back. Was a tough experience to read where SWIM's mind was... the insanity. SWIM is 29 now, and began with drugs and alcohol at 12, graduating to heroin at the age of 16. Developed a gambling addiction in the mid-20's and SWIM was brought to SWIM's knees when cocaine and heroin found a home in a needle.
SWIM noticed that some replies to his posts predicted SWIM needed to either clean up or would not be on this earth much longer. For some reason, SWIM's higher power saw fit to save SWIM, and gave SWIM the chance to recover.
After a stint in rehab, both inpatient and outpatient, and half a year in a recovery home, the future looks much brighter. Having a sponsor and attending 12-step meetings are what continues to save SWIM. Looking forward to reading other's experiences on this forum. But SWIM just wanted to be an example for anyone who is feeling hopeless, if SWIM can do it, so can you. There is another way to live.
