Experiences - Coping Dope / Doing the Deal Rituals?

Hello Fellow Swimmers,

Do any of the swimmers follow patterns / rituals when going to score? For example, won't go to a certain place to score on a Tuesday due to fear of undercover operations or go out of the way to score due to hearing of better dope in a certain location?

If swimmer goes to the trouble score the better dope, does that increase the thought process (constantly thinking about what is waiting for them in their pocket )and intensity of WD symptoms that causes the swimmer to not be able to wait to get to safe spot such as home, but instead use in a public bathroom?

The only pattern swim can remember is the W/Ds easing off as soon as she had that bag of gear in her hand, and the relief she felt. But paranoia can be an effect of W/D too.
Swim was quite ritualistic in her cooking and prep procedure, she never rushed it, however much she was hanging out.

Swims tries not to go on Tuesdays and Thursday but its hard not to on Thursdays due to it being pay day. Those days always seem to have a lot more heat then the others and swim stands out like a sore thumb.

haha, if you think swiy sticks out, swim's a domestic rabbit in the city. White suburban kid rollin through random ass streets searching for the infamous badlands with a nice shiny car is just askin for trouble from every angle. In the streets of philly, if you got a car, you're being watched!

Haha swim has the same problem he lives right outside of of Philly, is 21 but looks 16 and hates parking his car when going to score. Everyone seems to know why swim is there and that he isnt from that part of town.

Back in cowboy smuggling days, he would never get on any major highways from Friday thru Monday. Still won't, old habits are hard to break. Kept him safe for many years.

Cowboy smuggling days?

If pacman has heard of other users saying so and so has got mint gear he will go there. He scores whenever he has the money so no real ritual regarding the day. He does feel much better if in WD if he has the H in his hand. It's weird. It makes him think that withdrawal is mind over matter

swim would guess he means both, being that it's the same thing when she scores on the street.

mainly the threat is the cops, but also the area is so bad and if swiy is a skinny white kid, swiy needs to be careful because there is danger in every direction, although not so much from the dealers (they want their customers safe and coming back for more), the danger for swim at least is in the gang members that control the streets down there.

she knows many people who have been robbed at gunpoint.

Heheh, SWIM has created little, what he calls, "nests" all over the ghetto of Chicago. These are basically small secretive areas, typically over overgrown plants in an abandoned piece of property, or a little nook by no longer used railroad tracks and busted up concrete, where he can go after coping to immediately shoot up. So his ritual is always to take the green line out to the ghetto, cop, and go to a nest right away to shoot up since he is usually sick. Oh, and he always puts his headphones on and fast forwards to some part of a house mix he likes after cooking up, because he likes to rush to come along with the mix fading in to one of his favorite tracks. Laying back on the "flooring" of his nest, the sun shining in his face, warming him, the rush and the music, warming him - it's always such a beautiful moment.

sadly, both. haha, but the cops the last couple years have gotten nasty. fucked up the police-criminal equilibrium, and now the street's in shambles. there's a reason why we're called killadelphia now... think we're in the top 5 for crime

swim doesn't really have rituals when scoring dope as much as he has preparation rituals. when swim is picking up he usually just wants to get the fuck out of that neighborhood (@dyingtomorrow: you are crazy going to random spots in the city! the areas swim has to go to in chitown are not a place to hang out).

once swim is safely home he has a number of preparation rituals. most important is that after swim does his shot he needs to rinse (suck some water into the rig and squirt it under the tongue). swim knows it doesn't have any effect but it's just one of those things.

My fiend has a couple of silly 'rituals' one of which is 3 cigarettes, he smokes one on the way to score, lights one up when he scores, and then one for getting home safely. There is another one but it's too ridiculous he isn't going to admit to it, that said on the one occasion he was unable to do this, he was interrupted by the authorities and forces to push the plunger on the carpet of a car because the 'interruption' was so sudden.

There was nothing they could do, however his friend who smoked it wasn't so lucky, he couldn't destroy it in time and eventually they found it on the foil and he got charged with possession, i know it was pure coincidence but quite odd never the less.

@dyingtommorrow - That must be very cold during winter time! SWIM sees SWIY likes house / DNB. Do you find this helps to relax the brain / body even more due to how house can allow the mind to relax as compared to something with more lyrics that requires constant attention?

Fuck ... don't get me started on being a dope addict in the Chicago winter. SWIM is lucky he has all his fingers and toes. Try being a 3 year IV junkie with no veins left, trying to shoot up outside in 30 mph wind and -20F below. It is the worst thing you can imagine, next to being a homeless dope addict (which SWIM also has been) in the Chicago winter.

SWIM likes house music with some vocals, and he gets so happy listening to it. Combined with heroin it is just the most heavenly thing to SWIM.

Heh, SWIM hears these things but doesn't understand where they come from. SWIM has been marching his eccentric looking white ass around in the plain ghetto on average every other day for 4 years. Never had a single problem from police or gangs. SWIM speaks the language perfectly and knows how to act though, which is probably the difference between him and people who have problems there.

Street smart is so important. Sparkles would imagine being homeless helped in swi DTs education. The awareness swiy needs to stay alive, on that level, is pressure.

Yeah you learn a lot. Mainly that 90% of homeless people are junkies, none of them need food because they get all they want from the shelters and their $200 a month LINK government foodcards, and spend ALL their "help me I need food" money on heroin or crack. Plus you meet shitloads of people that know EVERYTHING going on in the city. Helpful to find free dope passouts.

As for the fierce desire to stay alive, that not so much. For SWIM, the difference in how he felt living in a highrise condo with all the money he wanted, and living in a homeless shelter was nil - in neither case he felt any different, which gives very little appreciation for life. Heroin is the only thing that makes him feel alive - thus after running out of money, living as a homeless person who can get high every day or two is actually an ideal choice compared to getting clean and living, uh, "normal" and drug free. He mulling over the decision to return to that as we speak. Not to get off topic.

In swims old days he used to never believe he had it until its in his pocked ! Then when he had it he felt more relaxed... His dad always told him don't believe you got it until its in your pocked as you will be disappointed sometimes.

Not really a ritual. On the way there SWIM would make sure he had his foil, lighter and a tooter. Before approaching the dealers house SWIM would straightin out his foil set everything out and immediately after getting the dope find the safest, usually shadiest location seeing as how its almost always how in California, and enjoy his smoke. After a couple of hits swim would turn his car back on have a cig and continue smoking whenever he was stuck in traffic. =]
