Hello, recently my dog was presented with the opportunity to drop acid with some other dog friends. My dog has tried mushrooms and marijuana before with positive results; however, after recent experiences smoking marijuana, my dog has experienced some anxious and panicky behavior while high. This uncomfortable, abnormal behavior is directly caused by the increased heart rate, one of the many side effects of smoking marijuana. Basically, my dog notices that his heart rate is abnormally high, creating a panic which only elevates the heart rate, and makes the situation even worse.
My dog is worried that he could experience similar effects if he were to drop acid. From a biological perspective, does LSD increase one's heart rate? I'm worried that my dog could experience a similar reaction to smoking marijuana. Is there any advice or instruction my dog should know before dropping? I understand there is a "First time using LSD" post, but my dog's situation is unique and may need separate speculation. |

Re: 1st Time Advice
Unfortunately, LSD can cause an elevated heart rate, as well as an increased body temperature (though not all users experience these effects). The visual and emotional components of an LSD trip can also cause an elevation in heart rate and blood pressure. It is also important for your dog to note that, while the majority of LSD trips are enjoyable, often powerfully positive experiences, some result in anxiety and/or feelings of loathing and fear.
There are several ways to minimize anxiety when using any psychoactive, however. First, the user should not be going through a particularly stressful or dangerous time in their life, as certain substances (such as LSD) can exacerbate and exaggerate these problems (although sometimes LSD trips are credited with helping users solve their problems and relieve stress and anxiety). Second, the user should ingest the substance in a safe, relaxed environment where he/she feels comfortable and at home. If it is the user's first time, it is a good idea for them to bring a sober friend along to act as a "sitter" -- someone to calm them or sober them if their experience starts to turn bad. |
