Re: is mescaline different and in what way to ketamine?

In SWIM's opinion, mescaline is most definitely a worthwhile experience, and SWIM finds mescaline's effects to be far superior to those of ketamine (although this last, of course, is personal preference).

SWIY seems to desire a brief description as to mescaline's effects, so SWIM will endeavor to provide one. To begin with, mescaline generally inspires a feeling of intense euphoria and well-being -- if you'll forgive the poor metaphor, of spiritual warmth. That is to say, when experiencing mescaline, the user slowly becomes at peace with him or herself and the world around him/her (though do note that, though rare, intense feelings of anxiety and revulsion can occur). The user becomes to content to relax and let the mescaline take them where it will. This feeling of relaxatino is notably different from the sort of couch-lock that can be brought on by opiates or indica-heavy strains of cannabis, however. The user does not feel heavy, or lackadaiscal, rather in a state of physical meditation, if such a thing is possible. Closed and open eye visuals are to be expected, as are communication or contact with "spirits". Finally, the effects of mescaline are quite long lasting and generally last all day and sometimes into the next.

SWIM ranks mescaline as one of his most preferred psychedelic experiences, and strongly recommends it. SWIM also strongly recommends that SWIY produce the mescaline for SWIY's self, rather than purchasing it.

Re: is mescaline different and in what way to ketamine?

Mescaline isn't anything like ketamine.. Of course they are different, they obviously are totally different compounds, not even in the same general family.. Mescaline is a pretty gentle ride, for SWIM, even in higher doses. It lasts a long time (12+ hours much of the time), and has decent visuals with great body sensations, and very little mind fuck. Ketamine only lasts about 2 hours, usually, and makes one much less mobile than mescaline, that can actually give a good deal of energy. They are not alike, in hardly any way, really, unless you count the fact that they both can cause visuals and a trip.

Re: is mescaline different and in what way to ketamine?

Different drugs, different effects.

Mescaline can be classified as a phenethylamine, and exerts the brunt of its activity via enhancement of serotonergic 5-HT2a receptor activity (as most psychedelics do).

Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic that exerts it's dominant activity via antagonism of NMDA receptors. It also, however, has activity at the 5-HT2 and dopaminergic receptors as well - which contribute to its subjectively euphoric and hallucinatory effects.

While both of these neurotransmitter systems are central to sensation and perception, they are quite distinct in their function. Mescaline can be considered to be psychedelic, while Ketamine (similar to PCP) exerts hallucinations that wouldn't be considered altogether psychedelic in nature.

A good start might be to read into the differences between dissociatives and psychedelics.

Re: is mescaline different and in what way to ketamine?

hey thanks peeeps for the info, swim is very familiar with the effects of k as well as lsd, for some reason i had in my head that k was a psychedelic foremost with dissociative qualities, i know its not as people tend to be cut off rather than anything else, but swim wanted some clarification. so its safe to say that mescaline is worth the trouble as swim will have a long journey to get it. thanks dudes
