Can drug testers tell if urine is male or female?
SWIM searched on this forum but could not find a straight answer. While searching online SWIM found contradicting opinions. Anyone know for sure? SWIM cares cause she is going to be tested for a job and can obtain clean MALE urine.

Yes they can. They might not always check but its not worth the risk.

That really really sucks. SWIM read that employers tests NEVER check. SWIM wonders if anyone got caught that way.

Re: Can drug testers tell if urine is male or female?
When the pee is tested it is possible for them to tell if it is male or female if they are looking for it. However most tests do not include this in their routine testing unless specified. My buddy SWIM recently finished out patient after close to a year. It took so long because about half way through his intensive out patient the first time, SWIM failed a pee test, not because of dirty pee but because SWIM was a male and the pee was definitely not... lol it's happened.

Re: Can drug testers tell if urine is male or female?
Although other testing methods do exist, there are four basic methods of testing urine in an employee drug screen in the U.S.. In order to determine what is or isn't (or what can or can't be) tested for in a urinalysis, one needs to know which method of testing will be used. These methods are:
-Test strip or stick -Immunoassay analysis (EMIT, FPIA, RIA) -Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). and -High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) In the U.S., labs often test for the following: Drug metabolites, pH, creatinine, specific gravity, certain oxidants, and excessive nitrites (none of these determine sex). Testing for anything else is not economical and in the average employers best interest. However there are always exceptions, such as the military or government jobs that require a security clearance. Using Radioimmunoassay (RIA) to test for the sex of the 'donor' by testing for the presence of hormones, as well as testing for Human Glycoprotein Immunoglobulin G (IgG) to determine if the urine is human or synthetic, is rarely done in the U.S. In fact, some labs won't run any additional tests other than metabolites (such as creatinine or specific gravity), unless there is a reason to believe that the sample has been tainted or diluted, or the employer specifically requests it. If the sample is collected at and sent to a lab by a third party company or lab, one can easily enquire about the exact testing method and what they will test for. GC/MS and HPLC will provide more accurate results with a broader range of tests, as opposed to EMIT(II) and test strips or sticks, which almost never test for anything but the presence of the metabolite to give a positive or a negative. Reason: to add more links and to better specify RIA. |

Re: Can drug testers tell if urine is male or female?
Thanks very much Electrolingus...the job that SWIM is hoping for is a restaurant job at a casino along with another restaurant that also drug tests. She is now thinking of using the urine from the clean guy she knows rather than trying to find a girl from craigslist. That would cost money and take a lot of time as well!
Please wish SWIM luck! It sounds like she will be alright. |

Re: Can drug testers tell if urine is male or female?
I have checked on this before. The lab told me they couldn't. Also, I've actually used a females before and they didn't know it...

Re: Can drug testers tell if urine is male or female?
The laboratory's job is to conduct a DRUG test, not gender identification. In the US there would be a bunch of legal ramifications to determining the gender when the urine donor has not consented to it. Can it be done? Sure, if the resources are available to the lab. But they aren't going to do so.

Re: Can drug testers tell if urine is male or female?
Using a different sex sample that you KNOW is clean is MUCH better then getting it off someone on craigslist. How would you know if that person is truthful or not?
PLUS, at least where swim is from, the sample is submitted to the lab with just a serial # on it, that serial # is used to report back whether the sample is clean or not, there's no sex check taken (keep in mind, that costs $$!) |
