SWIM needs help with withdrawals and alternatives

SWIM had a habit long ago. he recovered and was clean for 7 years. he's recently started to use recreationally, however he's using enough to feel withdrawals.

SWIM is using every other day, to keep from getting a major habit. SWIM would like to know anyone's advice on what he can use on his off days to combat withdrawal.

SWIM uses about 2 to 2.5 bags every other day (not that bad, no?). on the days in between he's been using about 1.5mg of Xanax to get through, and maybe .5mg of Klonopin to sleep. He's worried about getting a Benxo habit and would like to keep his use down.

SWIM's not familiar with Xanax or how easy it is to form a habit. does this seem like a lot or too often? what are some other alternatives?

he's found Kava Kava to help somewhat but not enough. some scotch helps before bed as well. but these don't keep him from needing the Benzos.

thanks for any input or advice!!!!!!!

Re: SWIM needs help with withdrawals and alternatives

Not that SWIM has a massive amount of experience in these matters, he'd say be careful with the benzo's.
Sure they would help a bit with withdrawal but they're very addictive in themselves and withdrawing of them is debatably worse than smack and certainly more dangerous (risk of seizures etc.)

Are the withdrawal effects severe??? Since SWIY they were not using much is it possible to ride it out at all?
Obviously this is not easy but was wondering anyway.

Good luck to SWIY, I hope SWIY comes out of it allrite

Re: SWIM needs help with withdrawals and alternatives

alcohol and benzos have the potential to cause swiy just as much grief tbh. dont swap the witch for the bitch!

ideal meds for detox are clonidine, promethazine and buprenorphine. promethazine is OTC drowsy hayfever meds, clonidine is blood pressure meds.

2-2.5 bags every other day is a recipe for disaster, and the sooner swiy backs out of this "recreational use" the easier he will make it for himself. the longer swiy leaves it, the harder it will be to stop.
