Does nasal steroid spray affect cocaine absorbtion?

Swim searched the board and founding nothing about this. Swims been skiing for over a month and has some irritation, of course. Swim's doctor gave swim some Veramyst (fluticasone furoate) samples. It's a steroid based nasal spray for allergies. Would the use of this spray affect the way the tissues of the nose and sinuses absorb the powder? I know it reduces inflammation but wonder if that would rip the "welcome mat" from the door, so to speak.

Re: Does nasal steroid spray affect cocaine absorbtion?

oh brother no!

do not i repeat DO NOT insufflate cocaine if you are regularly using corticosteroids intranasaly for allergies.

the thing is that corticosteroids (cortisol, prednisolone etc) are exceptionally catabolic substances, they inhibit the body's ability to heal and even cause premature cell death. They are also immunosapresants meaning they lower your bodies ability to fight infection. They are anti-inflammatory for that precise reason. So the thing is that your nose mucous membranes are weakened both structuraly and have less defences against infection due to the steroid drug. Adding cocaine and all its crap to the mix will get you infections, and a perforated nose septum prety fast and you wont be able to tell because your nose wont get inflamed!

Re: Does nasal steroid spray affect cocaine absorbtion?

Thank you for your reply. That's what I needed to know. Swim's not been using it daily because she wasn't sure of the consequences. I'd read in, I believe, the nose care thread that Flonase might be beneficial. Since swim's been skiing, she asked her doctor for some and he gave her Veramyst, which is basically the same thing.

Swim's off the Veramyst! Thanks again!!
