Swollen hands from taking DXM + Alprazolam

dunno if this is the right place or w/e but swim got barred out on 2mg xannies then he lost track of how much beer he drank and took 600mg dxm.

swim is long experienced with dxm, pretty familiar with benzos, and has been drinking for a couple of years. anyways he got really fucked up and through the trip felt like his skin on his hands was tightening and tightening. once he came back to reality he realized his hands were just really swollen. he has been taking dex for a long time and never had swollen hands before. is this a result of the drug combination? he knows benzos and dxm dont mix and can be dangerous, so spare him any lectures. he just needs to know if the swollen hands is anything he needs to worry about, and how to help decrease the swelling.

Re: weird reactions..

Has SWIY ever done said combination before? It seems its possible for both DXM and benzos to cause swelling in some cases; perhaps the combined effect of both caused it? SWIM wouldnt know if that is likely or not, just making suggestions. SWIY could try ice to decrease the swelling, or contact a doctor or ambulance if SWIY thinks this is serious

Re: weird reactions..

swim has never done this combo before. the swelling has gone down, but its still swollen. but as long swelling is a somewhat normal side effect, i guess ill be fine. swim definitely learned his lesson.

Re: weird reactions..

Combinations of DXM and benzos are known to have unpleasant results. I've never been a fan of benzos myself but I tripped with a friend once after he had taken a couple of bars. He referred to it afterwards as more of a mindfuck than a trip, and not enjoyable in the slightest. This guy feels the same way: http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8780

Re: weird reactions..

Something like this just happened to Swim last night. Her hands had swollen, but she realized what was going on and got her ring off in time! Swim was using Zicam Max Night, about a 400 mg dose. She hasn't used dxm in a long time because it always made her sick. She wanted to try this new method. Before taking Zicam, she had even had problems with coughgels.

About an hour before taking the Zicam, her stomach was acidic and she took an otc heartburn med, ranitidine. This is a medicine Swim uses about once or twice a week. After she noticed her hands swelling, she took some benedryl, not exceeding the dosage on the label. With ice and time, the swelling subsided. She felt slightly nauseous after that but never wound up actually throwing up. Swim told me she had always gotten the "robo itch" whenever she did it in the past. She was bright red at the worst part of it. She is wondering if this is some sort of allergy? Her sister was worried for her too, but there was someone present who had some basic training in first aid said that the reactions so far were not that serious, but if they got worse they knew how to help and when to call for help.

She started feeling better not long after, and succumbed to the drowsiness of the antihistamines about four hours after initial ingestion of Zicam. Swim woke up today, no hangover. She said that she believes she achieved 2nd plateau before going to sleep.

If anyone has any information on what could have caused this or if it has a possibility to get worse, Swim would appreciate it!

Thanks!

Re: weird reactions..

The red face is from histamine release and taking an antihistamine should resolve the problem. SWIM finds that if she takes her DXM too late in the evening the Benadryl will make her nod or put her to sleep. She suggest waiting untill you are well rested or starting earlier.
