Using a partial agonist in tandem to prevent a full agonist tolerance developing

I thought I'd like to bring up this thread for discussion to obtain subjective views of other swimmers on this issue:
This theory is mildly contentious, but it has been brought to my attention whilst perusing various pharmacological studies online*, that during research on the effects of full-agonist opiates (heroin I believe) on mice, scientists discovered that if they administered a small amount of buprenorphine daily (equivalent human doses of between 0.2 and 1ml) on top of the standard issue of heroin, that it prevented the mice from forming a physical dependence to opiates, and ergo, when the dosing was stopped, the mice did not go through any protracted withdrawals.
Personally SWIM had tried this method with some success, but maybe it could be placebo? and if a subject was already addicted to full agonist opiates, would it be too late for this type of combination to work? Has anyone else heard anything about this or has any information to help corroborate this theory?

* (please don't ask me for information specifics on the study because I cannot for the life of me remember- try googleing lol)
