Re: Bipolar cocaine users

SWIM has a friend that is bipolar that he has seen use cocaine whenever she was in her depressive state, mainly to get the manic feeling she switched from back. It doesn't seem to SWIM like that was a very great idea for her.

Re: Bipolar cocaine users

Mixing bipolar disorder with any recreational drug seems like an awful, awful idea to me...

Re: Bipolar cocaine users

It's not uncommon for bipolar people to use stimulants in order to achieve/maintain mania, or to avoid conventional mood stabilizers for fear of losing that mania. Meth is big among bipolar people, as I'm sure cocaine is. The mania might feel better or last longer on stims, but the comedown into depression is sure to be twice as hellish.

Re: Bipolar cocaine users

SWIM has always found drug withdrawl to overshadow depression, and he thinks that having an obvious reason for why one feels so crap actually kinda helps you deal with the feelings.

And SWIM would like to add that although taking (not all at once btw) coke, whatever opiates he can get hold of, speed and drinking like a fish isn't strictly a reasonable way to deal with MD, he feels that the fun drugged up times are better than the bland beige nightmare of regular meds.

Re: Bipolar cocaine users

Swim has been diagnosed as bipolar, and finds no more togerther-ness and security when riding the crest of a coke high, though the comedowns wreak havoc.

Re: Bipolar cocaine users

swim has a opiate addiction now in recovery and was diagnosed with bipolar on tuesday after 7 months of which swim can only decribe as hell pychosis depression suiside attempts and cutting swims self. Swim saw the pdoc weekly during those times and got no where untill 2 weeks ago saw a different doc and he took swim off the antidepressants swim was on swim can only say what a differance new meds the bad feelings have gone and swim is not in a manic phase but at peace with every one and has started to enjoy life for the first time in 13 months so swim was ill and self medicating herself with the opiates not a good idea but these things helped at the time maybe the docs should start listening to peeps and not be so patronising

Re: Bipolar cocaine users

SWIM was diagnosed as bi-polar type II (the non-manic, but super depressed/anxiety type). Then again this was after he went to a psychiatrist after just coming off of 4 years straight of shooting heroin. SWIM is not a huge believer in psychiatry, and frequently hears of people getting diagnosed by different psychiatrists as all kinds of different things. So maybe he's bipolar, maybe not.

As far as doing coke, SWIM usually gets very depressed afterwards. If he has taken it in moderation, it's dealable. But there have been many times when SWIM has gone on huge coke binges, and then ended up sitting in a dark room for a week straight unable to deal with anything. SWIM was shooting speedballs a couple weeks ago and had about 3 days of extreme depression afterwards, and the heroin didn't even help as it normally does.

Re: Bipolar cocaine users

Swims close friend is bi polar and when hes used cocaine it was very bad. I will not go into details but swims friend has talked to him very deeply about the topic. It was the one worst things he ever did is what he said. Could be different for different people but swims friend said it was not good at all.
