Re: Adderall for Obesity .....?

Amphetamine (Dexedrine, Adderall) is no longer approved for treatment of obesity according to the latest “Medication Guide” published by the FDA in 2007; however methamphetamine under the brand name “Desoxyn” is still indicated for short-term treatment of obesity in its “Medication Guide” also published in 2007.

SWIM thinks it would be very hard to get prescribed meth to lose a few pounds/kilos as it’s reserved as a last resort and for very serious obesity; SWIM thinks that very few doctors would prescribe Amphetamines for weight-loss these days.
Amphetamines are also used off-label to treat severe depression refractory to common treatments and to manage certain rare circadian rhythm sleep disorders such as Non-24-hour sleep-wake syndrome.

Re: Adderall for Obesity .....?

Adderall works well for reducing appetite and therefore making you lose weight for a few days. After a while tolerance builds and you can eat and even sleep on it. Probably what would happen is someone would lose weight for a week or two, then they would need to up their dose or they're going to eat like a fat ass again. If the stop taking the pills it is very likely that they're going to regain all the weight they lost, plus some.

Re: Adderall for Obesity .....?

SWIM believes stimulants are still used in the case of extreme obesity. Adderall was formerly known as Obetrol. It's not a substitute for self-discipline.
