Other - Will Drying Mushrooms with Heat Reduce Potency?

I recently got some fresh magic mushrooms, but wan't going to have an
opportunity to do them for a while.. So I dried them out, and now they
are sat in the fridge.



The trouble is, I dried them out by sandwiching them between a few
pieces of paper and putting them under a couple of halogen bulbs.
It was "warm", but not particularly "hot". They dried in about 12
hours. Will I have killed the potency?

How long will they last for now that they are in the fridge?

Its possible some of the magic was destroyed, the only way to know is to eat them. They need to be in an airtight plastic bag or vaccum sealed to keep. Eat them i the next couple weeks if you are not going to vaccum and freeze.

They are in an airtight bag in the fridge - is that good enough, or do they need to be frozen (I.e. sub-zero, in the feezer)

I don't think you killed the potency. W/B and let us know- real curious. (They grow in really warm places, so..??)

If your going to store the fresh in the fridge, they need to be in a paper sack. Sealing them in an airtight bag will only promote the breakdown of the mushrooms. They will last @ 2 weeks if refrigerated fresh, if stored properly. Its best to dry them, then seal them in airtight container and put them in the freezer if you plan on storing them longer than that.

If youve already dried them out then i see no need to refrigerate them. And i dont think heat from the bulb will have reduced the potency. The heat to desroy it is quite high. You are best storing them in the freezer if they are already dry in an air tight zip lock
