Question please, depression after stopping speed
Firstly, Y does not want to put anyone off, stopping speed, if they wish to break the habit.
Y have been stopped four months, but he has had the most crippling depression and anxeity. They are worse than the depression/anxiety he got on a comedown. Come to think of it, Y had bad depression/anxiety before he ever used speed. Was it really this bad, though? Y drank booze then which may have distorted things. He had the habit about three and a half years. Taking amphetamine so strong, a match-head sized bit would keep a non tolerant person up a day or so. The depression and anxiety seem to be getting worse in stead of better. Y wants to know how long he has to suffer before he can get some relief. He wants to know how long his brain is going to be a downer on him. Instead of anxiety and depression, Y is looking towards calm altertness, and joy, is that too much to ask for? |

Re: Question please, depression after stopping speed
SWIM is sorry to hear about SWIY's condition. SWIM can sympathize though, he tried several times to quit speed (various forms, including meth) and had the same problem. SWIM has read several clinical studies as well as personal accounts pertaining to the length and severity of the depression after quitting speed. SWIM found a huge variance in the length of these effects. Some say they experienced almost no negative effects, some say they lasted only a few days or weeks and some say that it took the better part of a year to really start feeling like themselves again.
One of the biggest factors that seems to determine this is how long SWIY has been using speed and how heavy the typical dosage was. If SWIY doesn't mind SWIM asking, what kind of time frame and dosage did SWIY's use consist of? Also, what form of speed, regular "base" amphetamine or meth? In SWIM's personal experience, he had the same problem the first few times he tried to quit. It seemed almost random. When SWIM was finally able to quit for good, he found that switching from meth to the (somewhat) milder Dextroamphetamine helped. It provided similar (although less intense) effects and kept SWIM from going insane. He found it a bit easier to quit coming off of d-amphetamine. The whole experience still sucked of course, but it was more bearable. SWIM would experience short periods of time where he would feel great and almost back to normal. These grew in duration with time until eventually he felt this way most of the time. All in all, SWIM would say he was pretty close to his old self again after about 8 months. This was after coming off of d-amphetamine - ~200mg daily for about 6 months. SWIM found that a few basic supplements, exercise and determination seemed to speed things along a bit. The whole process can take a while and there are times that one may feel almost forced into giving up, but trust SWIM, SWIY will see the light again. Best of luck, if SWIM can provide any other info, he would be glad to do so! Stay strong, DecoyPencil |

Re: Question please, depression after stopping speed
Why everyone like to quit drug all in a sudden. Didn't swiy know the brain will not be able to function for a long time due to the excess of drug swiy taken. Quiting drug is not a day thing.
After swiy quit, did swiy work, exercise and hanging out with friends. Or simply doing nothing at all and hope that swiy life will get back to normal. Than swiy got facing any difficulty or after quitting, got any problem on communicate with people. Swiy can see a doctor and be true to the doctor and tell them swiy are a ex meth-addict and tell them the problem swiy facing. Swim will use this post and remind those who wanted to quit. Don't quit drug suddenly cos unlike smoking cig, your brain and body need the time to slowly work out. Go get a milligram weighing scale and cut down the dosage slowly day by day and during this time exercise a lot and eat healthy and drinking lots of water instead of staying at home and doing nothing. A point for cutting down the dosage is to give time for the brain and body to adapt the changes without the drug in the body. like from 50mg to 2.5mg in 1 to 2 months time and don't increase the dosage at any point of time, standard should every 3 to 5 days to decrease the dosage by 5mg or 10mg. For hardcore drug abuser, after quiting most importantly is to see and find a good doctor and start working out on other problem like mood disorder, depression etc. During this time family and friends will too play a big part too. Stay positive and moving forward and working out on your new life. Don't have to go to any rehad center and simply all is up to everyone's mind and determination to quit. |
