IV most addictive method?

Is intravenous use of heroin a more addictive way to use, or is that just a social stigma against needles and needle users? Opiates are addictive in and of themselves, but how does the method of administration impact addiction, if at all? Mainly talking about heroin here, but other drugs could be applicable.
