Just under three months ago, Y stopped taking valium for a month. He had been taking it a few times a week, prescribed by his doctor.

After about 10days stopping, Y got very bad anxiety. The sort where your breath wobbles, you heart pounds, you see the worst in everything, and nothing convinces you otherwise. It was much worse on waking, gradually improving into evening.

After a month of no valium, Y decided to ask his doctor for mirtazapine, to get him through any residual anxiety.
Y had also given up amphetamines, a month before he gave up the valium.

He went to his doctor, and told her all of this, and his doctor reassured him, that she had not presribed Y a high enough dose, taken at a high enough frequency to form an addiction.
Doctor prescribed mirtazapine, and some more valium and said that if Y took it as prescribed, every 2 or thee days (no longer than 3 consecutive days) Y would be safe from addiction.
Y had such a bad time with the initial depression/anxiety side effects of mirtazapine he self harmed, and needed all the valium he was allowed. He still, did not take it on consecutive days.
He was on mirtazapine for a month, and took valium every 48hrs during this month. Y also took 10mg zolpidem a night, but had one week off, one week on, to avoid addiction.
He asked his doctor if the acute anxiety could be related to the valium, but his doctor told him, the acute anxiety was due to the fact that he was also in the recovery phase from amphetamines.
The side effects from the mirtazapine deemed Y too high a risk to be kept on them, so doctor weaned him off the mirtazapine, and put him onto trazodone. He has been on trazodone 150mg per night, for three weeks tomorrow.

He has had an angry outburst on himself, and wakes up with the most god awful crippling knee-hugging terror each morning.
This is so bad, he dreads mornings. He is due to see his own doctor in just over a week.
While on the trazodone, Y has been taking valium every three days.
Last friday morning, however, was so bad, that Y spoke to the duty doctor about his bad anxiety, he was afraid he would hurt himself.
The duty doctor reassured him that the trazodone would probaly start working soon, as then, it was coming upto three weeks since he started it. Doctor said that the trazodone hadnt had chance to properly kick in yet, and that it was a good antidepressant pill.

Valium wise, Y takes 5mg every three days.
He has two days with none, to keep his brain from getting too used to them.

Eventually, when the antidepressant medications start working, Y aims to have no need for the valium.

Y may be paranoid, but he wonders if it is the valium that is causeing the acute anxiety and not the trazodone.

Y has heard, however, that because of valiums long half life, although Y did not take it daily, he would still need to do a form of taper. He currently takes 5mgs every 72hours.
Is this true? and how would I go about getting a taper regime worked out for me.

Y would love some answers to the questions in his post, and thanks you all in advance.

Appreciatively, yours
Y
