Opinions - Are Mushrooms a Good Psychedelic to Start With?

Hello all. I am new here and have a few questions for any experienced users to answer. I have this freind who is very similar to me. He wants to know if mushrooms are a good psychadelic to start with. He has previously tried marijuana, no other drugs. He used to smoke weed relatively frequently but quit about 6 months ago. He is very interested in psychology, specifically topics such as dreams and reality. He is not looking for a drug to have fun with. He wants to try a drug that can potentially give him a revelation and discover more about himself and reality. However,he is looking for the safest drugs, one with the least potential for permanent psychological damage. He is debating between Salvia and shrooms and he can get both very easily. Which is better for revelations and beneficial, life changing trips? Which is safer for the mind? Are there any known long-term side effects of shrooms? He can REALLY use some good advice, thanks.

Oh, sorry about that, I didn't think the searches would expire so quickly. My mistake.

Best thing to do is to go to "Search -> Advanced Search" near the top of the forum screen. From there, you can select prefixes (such as "Side effects") and multiple forums to search in (by holding down the ctrl key, select both Magic Mushrooms and Magic Mushroom Use). The results I got were from keywords such as "newbie", "first time" and "mental" (for mental side-effects).

UTFSE, don't ask others to do work that you can easily do for yourself. All of this has been answered.

But in general, shrooms are a more forgiving drug than salvia and are in general easier to work with. It seems that your friend has more thorough reasons for experimenting than just wanting to get high and that is the sort of respect that one needs when working with these things. Of course one should also never take what he learns at face value, rather he should analyze everything gained from a sober perspective after the experience. Otherwise it is very easy for delusions to set in. Just because the mushrooms are saying something doesn't mean that they're telling the truth!

Good luck to your friend, and tell him to stay smart, and do his research well beforehand.

SWIM actually just shroomed today for the first time. SWIM is a deep person, and more philosophical in nature btw. SWIM is pretty experienced in drugs, specifally pharmaceuticals, but this was SWIMS first experience with a psychedelic, SWIM has previously meddled with DXM, which would be the closest to "tripping." SWIM is quite secure in his mental clarity, he knows he has pretty strong mental grasp.


SWIM ingested an eighth of some liberty caps alone and the experience was ineffable. Call it spiritual enlightenment, bliss, rapture, profound insight, grandeur, awe etc....The experienced changed my life forever....Definitely had mad revelations and epiphanies, experiienced the ego loss as well. The experience was so immersing SWIM was actually put to tears of overwhelming amazement as SWIM came up. SWIM felt as if SWIM were celebrating what life actually was, taking it on as is. So all in all the experience was VERY powerful, and VERY moving, not something to be taken lightly.
As long as SWIY is in good spirits and has a strong mind, SWIY will have one of the greatest experiences of SWIYs life.

i agree i recently did them a few days ago an eighth of Cubes and pretty much my trip was exactly what you just said. Prob the best night of my life.

swim would reccomend an opiate+shrooms if he is going to do it his first time having only smoked weed before (less chance of a bad trip), or him try ecstacy alone first (pretty much no chance of a bad trip, more physcidillic then weed)

nic0tin3: Got to argue against opiates and shrooms, there's no logical reason why opiates would prevent someone with deep seated psychological issues from being forced to explore them (the classic bad tripp), and mixing those will lead to a much higher likelyhood of nausea.
