Did swim start too early?

swim got into hard drugs before he was 18 (drank too much but stopped, continued to use benzos but got it under control, played with opiates but ran out of joy) and he's wondering if artists who document their drug use starting at an early age began to use as early as swim?

apparently hunter s. was a heavy drinker by 14, irvine welsh used to huff glue as a kid, and the beatles were tangled in amphetamines by the age of 17.

can swiy find any sources that suggested a a drug inspired artist indulged before he went off to college?
