Swim wanted to relay an amazing (for him anyway) experience he had with media visualization after enjoying some cannabinoid incenses (experience report here). The thing that made the experience amazing for swim was a 3D effect his mind generated from the images as outlined below.
Swim put on some of his favorite music and switched to the Alchemy - Random media visualization in Windows Media Player. After watching it for about a minute, swim is drawn into the screen. He moves so that his face is about six inches from the screen. Suddenly his eyes go slightly crosseyed and he is seeing a double image of what is on the screen. Swim is so baked he just sits there anyway crosseyed. Then the most amazing thing happens. The double images combine into a single, 3-D image in swim's mind! This is hard to describe, but it was like being in a Tron-like dream world just experiencing and feeling the images. Swim felt like he was flying or floating in this alternate reality of colors, shapes, movements, and music.
After watching it for another minute, it got really intense. The 3-D aspect continued to grow and become more realistic and detailed. It's hard to explain but swim could also feel the music and visual effects in his body. It was as if one sensory input bled over and caused others.
Swim started to see people and objects in the 3D images. The mind was embellishing the images nicely, making things look smooth and beautiful.
Swim thinks this effect was similar to those 3D puzzles in the comics or in books where swiy let his eyes go cross and after a minute or two an image appears and then gets sharper and more detailed the longer swiy stares at it.
After maybe five minutes, swim was ready to leave, but he found it hard to draw back from the screen. It wasn't quite like he was trapped, but it was hard to leave. As swim pulled his head away from the screen, his eyes finally uncrossed and he was seeing normally again. It took swim a minute to get over the amazement of the experience. Swim gives it a double thumbs up and is wondering if anyone else has had this kind of experience or would like to try.
Based on swim's experience, he presents this step by step guide for swiy to try it if so inclined:
Obtain visualization software, such as Alchemy for Windows Media Player (see 'Software' category below for more info).
Prepare song playlist with some of swiy's favorite songs. Get the visualization set up and ready to go so as not having to mess around with it after getting high.
Position computer monitor so swiy can comfortably sit with face about six inches from the screen. The distance may vary depending on screen size. A widescreen LCD works very well because it helps fill the peripheral vision with content.
Clean computer monitor screen, little spots or fingerprints will be very noticeable and distracting during the experience.
Make sure the media visualization is in full screen mode so nothing else is on the screen but the visualization (no author, song name, control buttons, stuff like that). Often ALT+ENTER will go to full screen mode. (See pic in thumbnails).
Swim found dimmed lighting in the room was important.
A comfortable chair is important. Any feelings of physical pressure, uncomfort, etc. detract from the experience.
If swiy cannot get it so that all of swiy's field of view is on the monitor (i.e. swiy sees too much stuff surrounding the monitor), swiy may need to make a template out of black cardboard to surround the monitor to avoid visual distractions during the experience.
Sit down and watch the visualization. Just watching it for a minute before trying to get into the 3D space may help relax and clear the mind and prepare for the journey.
Slowly move face closer to the computer screen. Let the eyes relax, they need to lose focus and cross so that swiy is seeing double.
Wait for a minute or so looking double at the images. Try to relax and move slightly closer and further from the screen.
For swim, after a minute or so the double images came together and swim's mind created a 3D image out of it.
The 3D image may not seem very detailed at first. Just relax and enjoy the image.
As time goes on, the image detail and depth will increase and become more defined.
Swiy may experience senses of floating, weightlessness, gidiness, euphoria, awe, unbelief, and just plain fun.
After swiy has had enough, or needs more incense, slowly move head away from the screen. The 3D image will unlock and swiy will be free.
If swiy is not able to get the 3D immersion effect, swiy may want to try those 3D puzzle books. If swiy can't or hasn't been able to make those 3D puzzles work, swiy might not be able to get this 3D effect. Swim is just guessing because the method of getting the 3D effect with the media visualization feels similar to swim to those 3D puzzle books.
Swim would be interested to know if anyone else has had this kind of experience or wants to try it and report results. Swim tried it after cannabinoid incense, but imagines many other substances would produce the state of mind needed to allow the 3D effect to occur.
To build on this thread, has any swiy's:
Know of something similar but better? (Different software, technology, etc)
Have ways to improve the experience?
Know other substances that might enhance the experience?
Is the 3D effect achievable sober (swim will have to try)
