Purity - Cold Water Extraction Guide

Hi guys, as a fellow unofficial chemist, I though I would put together a guide on how to properly do a cold water extraction.

I. Why do it?

In an effort to boost sales and limit abuse, many pharmacuetical companies now market their painkillers with a small amount of narcotic, along with a large amount of OTC pain medication. The idea is now drug users are forced to consume large amounts of OTC drugs, mainly acetaminophen (tylenol), in order to get what they really want, the narcotic opiod pain killer. For example, Vicodin contains 5mg of hydrocodone, a powerful semi-synthetic opiod, mixed with 500mg of acetaminophen, a weak pain reliever/fever reducer. Now an experienced hydrocodoen user will typically require upwards of 40mg hydrocodone to achieve the desired high. To do this they would need to consume 8 Vicodon pills, getting 40mg hydrocodone but also getting 4000mg of acetaminophen. The problem here is that acetaminophen is VERY damaging to your liver, the maximum daily dose is 4000mg, and the maximum recommended at a time is 1000mg every 4-6 hours.
From this came the idea of seperating the hydrocodone from the acetaminophen (or codeine, oxycodone, etc... basically works on any narcotic that is mixed with an OTC drug). This is done via a Cold Water Extraction or CWE.

II. How it works
The idea behind it is simple. Acetaminophen will dissolve in hot water only and hydrocodoen/codeine/oxycodone will dissolve in hot and cold water. One crushes the pills, dissolves the powder in hot water, and lets it cool. When the mixture cools, the acetaminophen percipitates out, meaning it becomes a powder again. The solution is then filtered through a coffee filter and the acetaminophen gets caught in the filter and the narcotic is still in the water that was strained through the filter. You are then left with a solution of water, narcotic, and a few harmless fillers/binders.


III. Detailed Process

Step 1: Gather your materials (2 cups, pills, method of crushing pills, and filters)

Step 2: Crush up the desired amount of pills into a very fine powder.

Step 3: Fill one of the cups up with hot water from your sink. Try to use not a lot of water so filtering is faster.

Step 4: MIx the powder in with the hot water and stir until everything is dissolved as far as it can.

Step 5: Place the cup in the refrigerator until the liquid is cool.

Step 6: Move the cup into the freezer until the liquid feels cold, do not let it freeze.

Step 7: Tape the coffee filter to the top of an empty cup and pour the solution into the filter, allowing the water to drip into the cup below. Depending on how many pills you used, this can take up to 45 mins.

Step 8: After the filter is no longer dripping, put the filter and the wet powder into a second clean coffee filter and carefully squeeze the remaining water out while being careful not to rip the bag and let the powder get into your filtered solution.

Step 9: Drink it up! You now have an almost crystal clear solution of water and good 'ol opiates. The powder in the filter is the acetaminophen, inactive ingrediants, and binders etc... throw that crap out!


Notes:

- This also works well to filter out asprin and ibuprofen, in fact its even eaisier because asprin and ibuprofen are much more coarse and easy to filter.

- To speed up the process, you can put the cup directly into the freezer after you dissolve the powder and go strait to squeezing if you cant wait for it to filter on its own, just use two or three filters so they dont rip. This will be faster but you will get some acetaminophen in your final solution and lose some narcotic.

- If you plan to do this often, you may want to buy a vacuum filtration kit, it uses a laboratory filter and a handpump to speed up filtering while still filtering everything out.

- The solution that you drink is going to taste very bitter, I reccomend mixing it with some dr pepper.

- Only do this if your pills have other unwanted drugs in them, for example, don't waste your time doing this with Roxicodone pills because they are just pure oxycodone with no other drugs.
