Side effects - Swim got really hot the first time when using MDMA. Anyone else?

Swim remembers that the frist time he ever used MDMA (about 100mg) he had waited about an hour in the woods with some mates and nothing had happened, so he thought that this was it and started to drive home because he was bored. When he started driving the effects suddenly hit him, so he promptly stopped driving and returned to the woods. On the way back when the effects started to show swim got really hot. And I dont mean just slightly sweaty, I mean swim felt dangerously hot. He was covered head to toe in sweat and felt pretty dizzy for about five minutes looked really red and had to take his top off to cool down. After 5-10 mins his temparature pretty much returned to normal, and he enjoyed the experience from that moment on.

Since then swim has used MDMA about 20-30 times and this has never happened since. Is their anyone with a similar account? And is their a viable pharmacological explanation why this effect might only have happened the first time and never again?

Well, MDMA affects people in different ways over time. Some side effects are very prominent the first or first few times but go away with repeated use. Side effects can also emerge with repeated use. SWIM experienced involuntary rapid eye movements first time on MDMA, and has not experienced it since.

How sure are you of the purity of the MDMA of your first time?

The effects sound very extreme for MDMA. No conflicting medication you were taking at the time or other drugs used?

This happened to Swim his first time doing ecstasy (blue buddhas). Except his was a drastic temperature change, starting off as unbearably hot to shivering cold in a matter of a few minutes.

Swim would also like to see a pharmacological answer that can cover these bases??

As far as I know, increased body temperature is very common on mdma/ecstasy. Perhaps since it was the first time, this increase in temperature appeared to be more drastic and noticeable and on subsequent rolls, it was more familiar and therefore less noticeable and less intense since the body was familiar.

This sounds alot like the effects of PMA (para-methoxyamphetamine) not that of MDMA. Hyperthermia is indeed a side-effect of MDMA but it only goes to the extreme at high doses.... people have taken nearly a gram, dancing their asses off in a hot club, and never experienced this. PMA, however, is both a serotonin releaser and a MAO-A inhibitor, effectively causing serotonin syndrome even at lower doses.

PMA is also documented as having a slow-onset.

Which would completely explain the late onset of the tab, along with the side-effects, and the failure of its re-occurrence in repeated "MDMA" dosings in the OP's monkey.
