light shows while rolling - why do they work?

swim was recently wondering why lights shows while rolling are freaking
amazing ? is it because of pupil dialation just letting in more light? and if so then is it possible for swim to dialate his pupils and receive the same amazing affects? or is it simply because of the MDMA? thanks!
