Opinions - Alternative?

SWIM's prescription ran out early and was wondering if there were any suggestions for alternatives for the next week? Benzedrex inhalers have been recommended. Any suggestions?

SWIM was very acquainted with this situation when he was an Adderall user! In SWIM's experience Benzedrex inhalers can be a decent alternative to Adderall. Ingesting the contents (one cotton rod containing 250mg propylhexedrine, or the extracted contents) typically resulted in most or all of the classic effects of Adderall. However, SWIM would advise caution in using Benzedrex. While the effects tend to be very similar to Adderall, there are some differences that might make propylhexedrine unsuitable as a substitute (other than the inconvenient form of administration), depending on SWIY's condition and needs.

Because there are no studies that study the effects of swallowing the cotton portion of a Benzedrex inhaler, all SWIM can offer is anecdotal evidence and personal experience. The concentration and focus often seemed to be limited to obsessing over whatever SWIM's current "train of thought" was. His ability to use the concentration and focus for his intended purpose seemed to be less than with Adderall. SWIM believes part of the reason for this is the euphoria. Propylhexedrine seemed to cause a euphoria that actually felt more intense than that of Adderall. The result was often that SWIM would not use the energy for his intended purpose, but would rather lay around and enjoy the euphoria. This would also cause SWIM to become quite irritable if he had to get up and do something. SWIM would often become angry if someone asked him to do something and he found himself ignoring phone calls often. Also, SWIM definitely noticed more sexual side effects with propylhexedrine. Both increased sexual arousal and temporary erectile dysfunction, which as SWIY might guess, is a terrible combination. SWIM has his theories for the reasons behind each of these effects, but again, not proven science and SWIM has rambled enough already .

Summary: Benzedrex inhalers can be an acceptable substitute for Adderall when necessary. But SWIM feels the effects aren't as suitable for getting work done for various reasons. However, SWIM feels that some of the effects mentioned earlier can be avoided / lessened with a mood supplement. SWIM used to use 5-HTP for this purpose.

One last note: if SWIY decides to go for it, please remember that propylhexedrine is a vasoconstrictor. So keep an eye on SWIY's blood pressure and definitely be careful if SWIY has existing blood pressure issues.

It really depends on what you usually use your Adderall for. If you need the Adderall for an all night study session then SWIM can recommend caffeine pills. If you just need it for increased focus in class then SWIM recommends bringing your beverage of choice and a snack to class. Take frequent breaks to go to the bathroom. Take notes during class and scan them once over within the next day or two.

SWIM recommends Benzedrex inhalers. He's taken them roughly two weeks in a row without any noticeable problem. He can confirm that it is possible to extract the propylhexedrine from them (getting rid of the cotton, lavender, and menthol) with a moderate amount of effort.

He got nothing out of ephedrine or phentermine.
