FOAF wants to give up speed

AFOAF has been taking speed for the past 5 years or so. She desperately wants to give it up but just can't. It is wrecking her life, she has no life, no work/life balance, just work and sleep. This FOAF is caught in a vicious circle, where the speed leaves her without energy, just wanting to sleep and in a can't be assed mood, so she takes speed just to drag herself into work, then takes more when she's in work just to get her through the job, without the speed she'd be snappy and just anable to be there. FOAF can be going 36 or 48 hours, sometimes even longer, without sleep, unable to settle, figity, but eventually crashes and goes back to just wanting to sleep and do nothing, sometimes leading to throwing sickies and taking time off work whilst spending days in bed. FOAF knows she is wrecking her life, she wants to give up the speed and get her life back but doesn't know how to, she knows she could give up the drugs tomorrow if she didn't have to go to work but she has mortgage and bills to pay and can't even contemplate giving up work, so she's caught in this vicious circle having to keep taking speed.
FOAF has been searching the internet for help, searching for legal alternatives in the hope they may offer a solution, but advice on these legal speed pills vary wildly.
Does anyone have any advice they can offer FOAF ?

Re: FOAF wants to give up speed

which legal speed pills is swiy referring to?

swim recommends an anti depressant with upper qualities like prozac. swim found that she could continue on with life after methamphetamines without such a horrid crash. swim was on the generic version called lovan. it should be noted that when you come off of a drug like prozac, there will be somewhat of a crash, however not as harsh as an amphetamine crash if weaned down properly. this will enable swiy to plan her crash, and not have to rely on amphetamines just to get shit done. swim knows what this is like, and its fucked.

it compared very much with amphetamines in her opinion- it gave her energy, she had little appetite, she clenched her teeth somewhat, however she was unable to get to sleep till 1-2am, and spent some time laying in bed before sleep was achieved.

she had good results taking it sublingually too. (not supposed to be taken this way, however she did this on occasion).

legal highs from what swim has read can be potentially dangerous, and the smell that the body emits whilst on them is not favourable. also sleep can be impossible to achieve.

Re: FOAF wants to give up speed

Thank you for taking the time to reply ex-junkie.

SWIM was referring to the legal speed pills called Road Runner Super and Speedos but thinks you're probably right that it may be an option best given a miss.

With regards to the recommendation by SWIY to try Prozac or Lovan, SWIM doesn't know where to get those.SWIM is wondering if she would just request them from her doctor or if that would be a bad idea?? or try to get them from the internet from abroad??

yeah these are best acquired from the doctor. should be said that if swiy takes amphetamines on top of prozac, then she will feel like absolute shit very quickly, and then get massively run down, and have a horror of a time whenever theres no amphetamines about.

always best to be honest with doctors. its nerve racking having to do so, but when presented with somebody who is eager to stop taking drugs, they are "usually" quite helpful.

Re: FOAF wants to give up speed

Just to clarify, SWIY is talking about regular amphetamine, (AKA Base), correct? SWIex-junkie's suggestion could definitely help SWIY's situation. SWIM would definitely recommend requesting them from SWIY's doctor if possible. When the doctor asks about SWIY's condition and reason for requesting, the best option is to tell the truth. There could be a better option depending on several factors and SWIY's medical history.

SWIM has found that the best weapon to have for quitting speed is knowledge. SWIM read SWIY's post, nodding throughout, recognizing the feeling SWIY speaks of. The overwhelming lethargy and depression are what killed SWIM when he first tried to quit. Once he learned about the mechanisms underlying dependence and what was causing said lethargy and depression, things were much easier as he knew what to expect. Most of the information was found right here on DF. If always helped to read posts from other SWIMmers who were trying to kick it as well. It helps to know that others are kicking / have kicked the habit. SWIM was always a fan of the cold turkey strategy with regards to amphetamines because physical withdrawals aren't typically an issue. The experience definitely sucks! But SWIM remembers the overwhelming sense of accomplishment he got when he realized he was through the worst of it, and without using another drug. Success using this method is harder to achieve and definitely not for everyone, but SWIM thought he would mention it .

Whatever SWIY chooses to do, SWIM is sure that SWIY will find a lot of useful information on this site. One great resource is ~lostgurl~'s classic thread "(Meth) Amphetamine addiction". SWIY might have already seen it because it is stickied in this forum. But in case SWIY didn't get a chance to check it out, here it is. It links to several useful threads on this site and other info and posts pertaining to speed addiction. Most of the info pertains to both Methamphetamine and Amphetamine.

Best of luck,

Re: FOAF wants to give up speed

Could FOAF take a block of time off, to give herself some space to come off the speed.
Also, get in some supplements and depression busting food like fish, etc
There's loads of info on this site, about the various supplements, and which ones work best.
Y was lucky stopping base because his supply ran out, and the source got dry.

Re: FOAF wants to give up speed

Swim's is too is a ex meth drug addict too, its all depend on swiy yourself want to quit A NOT, first cut down the dosage slowly, than when swim don't feel the craving and the need for the drug, see a doctor and get ADD drug to help on swiy to focus on work but pls don't abuse the prescribed drug. During this time try hang out more often with friends and picking up new hobby or religous. And take health supplement and exercise.

Swim once a while still have some meth or mdma or benzo when with friends or clubbing but is no longer addicted to it anymore. Cos to swim point of view, family and career come in first, addiction will only make swim go back to the old life again which is simply call lifeless at all. So is all up to swiy in your mind which come first.
Set swiy yourself a few goal and think what really important to you, Drug or Your whole life. Love yourself and start enjoy life now rather spending all money on drug.

And remember this word: Drug is a wonderful creation to human beings on this earth but many human beings tend to abuse this creation and turn itself into nightmare!

Don't give up as swiy should count yourself lucky that swiy still have job unlike most of swim's friend that had end up in jail cos they have no job and no money to maintain on their craving for drug in the end become a runner for drug dealer and get caught.
