So my mom recently found out that I smoke marijuana... I tried backing
up my facts stating that marijuana is okay to do, if done only occasianally and to let let it consume you. She feels that I think it is 'harmless' and the word 'marijuana' catches my attention in today's paper, and I read on... It is a question/answer thing in the newspaper... MY MOM WRITES: My son has recently begun running around with some tough kids who have introduced him to marijuana. He doesnt deny what he is doing because he says it is harmless. Can you give me the facts? the doctor responds: Your son has been given some very bad information that is being passed around by those who are promoting the legalization of marijuana. It is a lie. Five marijuana cigarettes have the same cancer-causing capacity as 112 conventional cigarettes. Second, the part of the brain that allows a person to focus is, concentrate, create, learn, and conceptualize at an advanced level is still growing during the teenage years. Continuous marijuana use over a period of time will retard the normal growth of the brain cells. blah blah blah... it goes on how it effects female's DNA and reproductive eggs. Marijuana users that smoke one marijuana cigarette a day for one year have a 39% decrease in white blood cells. I doubt that your son will be satisfied with this answer, even though you should it with him. His motivation is probably related more to peer pressure than to his belief of harmlessness of marijuana. The dangers of him to "graduate" from marijuana to harder, more addictive drugs is also a caution. If I were you, I would bring all my energies to bear on getting my son away from the gang he is now running with, even if it is required for us to move. His is apparently at a critical juncture in his life. First of all, I dont do it every day, or even all that frequently, I have self-control and goals in my life, and smoking a couple times a month wont exactly make me a 'lazy unhealthy retard'. It's funny that me and my 'gang' made it in the papers, but unnoficially. My mom hasnt confronted me about it, I found the paper just now and shes at work... if she decides to confront me about it, I dont know what to say. Ive already told her i dont do it frequently, and that i know it isn't 100% harmless... oh well, just something I thought I'd share. |
