withdrawing from opiates with bipolar

hi, SWIM is sitting here withdrawing, thinking the worst was over after 4 days or so of not using then used again and withdrawals came back and hard. SWIM has always been a promoter of mind over matter but the physical aspects of the w/d are too severe. SWIM hasn't been on junk very long but escalated their addiction in too short of time and used far too often. SWIM somewhat realizes that they simply have to ride it out but it would be amazing to have some kind of relief, SWIM took immodium a while back and it seems to be working at least in relieving the tension in my arms. what kept SWIM on for a year and a half is the fear of withdrawing, and SWIM knows a lot of friends who would benefit from a little advice.
is there anything to stop the sweating and general dysphoria?
will immodium cause more stomach pain?
SWIM definitely doesn't want to take suboxone, cant stomach that taste anymore and has no way of getting it. benzos, though appealing, are pretty much out simply because of availability at the moment. if only SWIM was doing this a few days from now, a lot more options would be open, but it cant be helped.
where else can you get potassium besides bananas? SWIM heard it's supposed to help the RLS but can't eat anything right now.
havent slept in so long SWIM doesn't even remember what it's like to feel rested.
also, SWIM suffers from bipolar disorder and is wondering if SWIM's mood will likely recover from their lengthy binge. the last time SWIM quit junk they fell into a deep depression for about 2 months and when SWIM started to get happy again they thought they could handle using a couple of times. at the time SWIM was just smoking it but has since begun IV use and thats what started the body withdrawals. anyways, SWIM realizes it could be a while before they stop craving (months) but SWIM is on lithium and am starting seroquel. are these perscription medications a bad combination with heroin withdrawals? anyone know what they can do when coupled with detox?

thanks

Re: withdrawing from opiates with bipolar

clonidine will lower swiys blood pressure, and in the process, eliminate some of the hypertension, restlessness, and maybe even induce some sleep if prescribed enough. just explain to the doctor swiy is going through opiate withdrawal, and theyll be more than happy to prescribe it.

its not addictive, and afaik, doesnt interact with the above mentioned medications. the medications it does affect include:

  • clonidine transdermal skin patches (Catapres TTS);
  • digitalis (digoxin, Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps);
  • an antidepressant such as amitriptyline (Elavil, Etrafon);
  • a beta-blocker such as atenolol (Tenormin), carvedilol (Coreg), labetalol (Normodyne, Trandate), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol), nadolol (Corgard), propranolol (Inderal, InnoPran), sotalol (Betapace), and others;
  • a calcium channel blocker such as amlodipine (Norvasc), diltiazem (Tiazac, Cartia, Cardizem), felodipine (Plendil), nifedipine (Procardia, Adalat), verapamil (Calan, Covera, Isoptin, Verelan), and others; or
  • any other drugs to treat high blood pressure or heart problems.

bipolar people tend to be extremely happy when theyre up, extremely depressed when theyre down. hopefully something amazing can happen to swiy, and make them extremely happy for awhile. its always going to be there though, so understand that opiates dont solve this, they make it worse. in fact, swim would go as far to say that most drugs make bipolar people worse. in particular, marijunana. <---swims observation.

you cant take promethazine because it interferes with the lithium.

Re: withdrawing from opiates with bipolar

Swiy should try a massage, hot baths and deep heat for the restless legs, they all work a treat!
And my monkey also suffers from depression, he tried a detox from pods just this past week.
Well, he got to day 7, and all of the physical withdrawal symptoms seemed to have gone, but what he was left with was mental fucking anguish!
On day 7 he was just so irrationally angry and really, really depressed so he summed it up and thought the positives outweighed the negatives of just having some pods.
My monkey hopes that swiy is stronger than he is, and gets through it.
Though my monkey has decided to use ibogaine to get off these things, he's been dependant on one drug or another for the past ten years, and it all stems from his anxiety and depression. He thinks the ibogaine may also help him get to the root of his anxiety and depression, which has held him back all of his adult life.

Anyway, my monkey wishes swiy all the best, swiy can do it!
