Red face Woman & their periods while on opiates

SWIM is one of those strange but lucky woman that only get a period every couple of months. Also when they do finally arrive they are very light and last only a couple of days.
As it is said that heroin, methadone and other such lovely goodies can affect a woman's periods, SWIM would like to hear from some other lassies about their monthly cycles and if they believe that they are affected in any way by taking opiate/opioids.

Cheers in advance SWIM knows its not the most stimulating of subject of all

Re: Woman & their periods while on opiates

How much does SWIY weigh? Weight can also cause this effect. SWIM has a friend who's cycle stopped when she got down to 100 lbs. Once she laid off the junk and put some weight back on it started right back up again.

There are other things that can cause your cycles to stop. Sometimes Iron and vitamin C deficiency can cause this but it may be something more serious. If you are in the U.S. I would suggest a trip by the doctors or if cash is tight hit the clinic at the health department. A trip to either will rule out other potentialy dangerous conditions that may cause your periods to be erratic. The clinic will take all day but you can get seen even if you dont have any cash with little or no documentation. It's better to know for sure that its the junk and not an infection, ovarian cysts, ectopic pregancy, or some other heath issue that may need treatment.

Question Re: Woman & their periods while on opiates

SWIM got real skinny at the start of her addiction. SWIM is now 5' 7.5" and 69kgs

BMI is 23 but that don't help SWIM fit in her jeans. SWIM had to send a 30 inch waist pair back yesterday for a 32"

Going to the doc's hasn't helped. All smear tests have been normal and SWIM managed to get pregnant last year.

SWIM thinks she's just weird.

Would really like to know about other ladies please

Re: Woman & their periods while on opiates

swim didnt have a period for about 5 years whilst she was on opiates. it was a welcome change from having too many whilst on amphetamines prior to her opiate addiction.

you got to be very careful though. just because youre not getting your period doesnt automatically deem you unable to conceive.

swim weighed between 42-50kgs whilst on opiates.

Re: Woman & their periods while on opiates

At the height of her addiction, SWIM was down to about 50kgs and her period would only come every few months - even though she was taking birth control which was supposed to regulate it. With some added weight, and a little less opiates it started to normalise but it took some time. She still takes birth control (pill) but one with a lower amount of hormones that gives her a really mild period once a month - so fortunately there wasn't too much change from nothing while on drugs, to CRAZY HEAVY FLOW (ugh) while 'sober'.
Make sure your diet has enough Calcium, Iron and Vitamin C - and I have heard that too much Vitamin A (butter, cheese, yellow fruits and vegetables) can cause irregularity in your menstrual cycle, though you may want to look into a little further if you're curious. If your smears are clear though, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. And don't stress about gaining weight! SWIM knows it's rough - but it happens to every one.
