Comedown - Wellbutrin (Buproprion) Comedown

SWIM has been taking Wellbutrin SR 75 once a day for several weeks. SWIM notices that when Wellbutrin wears off, SWIM feels something very similar to an amphetamine comedown. The comedown from Wellbutrin feels just as intense as a comedown from an amphetamine, but reuptake inhibiters are suppsoed to stay in your body. SWIM loved amphetamines and could dela with the comedown because the highw as great and the comedown felt like a comedown so you could tell yourself that it was just a coemdown. The Wellbutrin comedown just feels more intense and real, whenever Wellbutrin wears off, the comedown just feels so ntense because somehow it feels more real. Does Wellbutrin really have a coemdown or is it all in SWIM's head? The coemdown happens at the same time every day and works just like amphetamine comedown, when the drug wears off. But amphetamines release dopamine into the brain, whereas Wellbutrin makes your brain produce more dopamine, so could it still have a comedown? Is there any chemical substance that is safe to use with Wellbutrin to dela with the coemdown? Amphetamine comedowns were easier because you could always tell yourself 'This is a comedown, this is the replacement for the high' and SWIY can feel it hit, but the Wellbutrin comedown seems to sneak up on you out of nowhere and feels real, or is it the result of your brain going back to it's regular state now that the Wellbutrin wore off? Is it really a comedown or just in SWIM's head, because it seems just like ampehtamine comedown?

Re-uptake inhibitors do not stay in your body, they are used to constantly stimulate, in low doses, monoamine receptors. If SWIY is using wellbutrine theraputically, the drug is wearing off too soon. If you have been taking it for two weeks, the drug should have normalized its effects somewhat, but reuptake inhibitors can take upwards of a month to fully take effect. What I am referring to by 'effect' is a general benefit of mood.

One should not feel the need to brace the comedown, frankly, there should be no comedown. It is not a good idea to begin finding ways to mix other drugs to improve the effects, otherwise you will become dependent on that combination throughout your therapy.

SWIM imagines you are taking too high of a dose, that you should talk to your doctor about lowering it, for now. you may consider asking about wellbutrine XR, which may help fight off the comedown during the day. If worst comes to worst, a secondary dosage during the day may become a necessity.

Good luck. I must advise you, NDRIs should not take the place of an amphetamine for effect. If you are looking for therapeutic value, the "high" should not be a requirement.

SWIM is on the lowest dose of Wellbutrin SR, SWIM has always had strong reactions to low doses. The "comedown" feeling was not as intense yesterday, so that's good. Since it's such a low dose, it's hard to feel it, but SWIM does feel a mood lift while on it, but because of the low dose, it's hard to know whether it's real or placebo. SWIM probably needs to ask about raising the dose to really feel it. Thank you for your comments.

You shouldn't really "feel it". The positive uplift should be very natural, after the initial weeks. It should be that feeling "I've noticed things have been great lately, this is going good" not "Today is excellent! I love drugs!"

Also, SWIM read that Wellbutrine SR is suggested to be taken twice daily; whereas Wellbutrine XL is a more classic example of extended release.

The Wellbutrin comedown last night was painful. I talked to my psychiatrist about it, he said that it's because I'm on too low of a dose and it's wearing off too quickly because of it, so we're raising the dose. Wellbutrin is great for my kind of generalized anxiety. With my kind of anxiety, I'm always worrying about my problems and stuff. SWIM had anxiety since age 3, then was put on medication at age 7. The anxiety went away at age 7 until age 20 and things were normal because SWIM was on all sorts of meds thiose years, SWIM's life was normal and SWIM didn't even know why SWIM was on medication, because the anxiety wasn't there, so then over a year ago SWIM got off medication after being on it for ages. Then the anxiety returned. Amphetamines and stimulants took away SWIM's anxiety, it changed SWIM's worrying thoughts into positive thoughts. Then when the ampehtamines/stimulants wore off, the negative thoughts would return more intense. Wellbutrin works in a similar way. When SWIM takes Wellbutrin, the negative worrying at problems goes away and positive thoughts about everything come in, when the Wellbutrin wears off, the worrying thoughts return more intensely, even more intense than amphetamine come down, because it feels so real until the next morning SWIM wakes up and it's back to normal, then SWIM takes the Wellbutrin and the thoughts become positive. Wellbutrin is very similar to a therapeutic version of an amphetamine / stimulant that helps with worrying/generalized anxiety. If someone uses amphetamines / stimulants to get rid of the worrying in generalized anxiety, Wellbutrin is great to use because it works that way, the thoughts become positive and the worrying changes into positive thoughts about your problems like it's all okay. The coemdown is intense, but it is worth it. Maybe the higher dose will give less of a comedown since it won't wear off as quickly.
