Need help to quit smoking cannabis.

Swim has been smoking weed since he was in sixth grade now 18 years old. Swim has been smoking almost everyday anywhere from 1-5 blunts a day sometimes more. Swim is so use to smoking he wakes up and wants to hit a blunt. Swim was wondering what are the best ways to quit smoking weed with the least amount of withdrawals and if there's anything that can taken to help. Swim knows this will be difficult weed has been such a common thing in swims life.

Weed does not have physical withdrawals such as commonly seen in opiate withdrawal. Weed's addictive nature is purely psychological, meaning its all in the mind.

Re: Need help to quit smoking.

SWIM has also been smoking frequently every day for a while and also hates taking breaks. However, SWIM finds it much easier to not smoke if he is busy. When SWIM gets bored, he really wants to smoke.

Re: Need help to quit smoking.

Its tough for swim right now he's dealing with depression and anxiety and its hitting home pretty hard. Swim is really trying to get his act together and get off the weed. Swim also has injured himself which kind of keeps swim in the house and very bored.

Re: Need help to quit smoking.

Try to diminish slowly the amount of weed swiy smoke... doing this ensures swiy wont feel any "withdraws", cause the decrease of the tolerance caused by smoking less will compensate the smaller amount of smoked weed.

For example, if swiy rolls blunts with 1g of weed, roll them with 0.9g, then after a couple of days roll them with 0.8g, etc, until reach the amount desired.

Re: Need help to quit smoking.

SWIM has to agree with the other swimmer, to cut down slowly (but surely) on the amount used everyday. It seems like going cold turkey is almost out of the question, unless SWIY can find a way to resist all temptations. The withdrawals really aren't there, surprisingly enough. Just the habit and want to smoke. This swimmer has been wanting to take up cigarettes since stopping herb, but she's somehow made her way without it. After 6 years of nonstop use, she can understand what SWIY is going through. Really though, just try cutting down a little each day and keep yourself as active as possible. If stuck in the house then take up listening to loud music while painting or writing or something. Other outside stimuli tends to make a difference, honestly. If you want somebody to talk to just PM and we'll try to keep each other's minds off of it.

Re: Need help to quit smoking.

A while back when SWIM was trying to stop smoking he also looked for a substitute. He tried using several substances as he would weed; basically as something to do when bored. SWIM tried DXM, some amphetamines, alcohol, opiates, psychedelics, and even Salvia one time when he had nothing else. The only "good" substitute he found (meaning it left him satisfied and not desiring to smoke) were opiates, particularly codeine. However, SWIM would never recommend that anyone sub opiates for weed, as these left SWIM with an incredible desire to do more. SWIM recognized this addiction forming and switched back to smoking weed regularly, to prevent the much stronger dependance that comes with opiates. It may help SWIY to question why he smokes at certain times, if not for a universal reason. For instance, SWIM has found he smokes to increase appetite, fall asleep, increase sociability, decrease anxiety, or to have a slightly trippy headspace. If SWIY has good access to other drugs, substitutes can be made based on the situation/ reason for smoking. SWIM would not recommend using a single substance heavily as a substitute for weed, due to increased risk of dependance.

However, in SWIM's opinion, the best all around substitute for weed (takes his mind off it) are some close friends. They may be able to help SWIY through some anxiety/depression he is feeling so he does not have to fall back on weed.

Good Luck.

Re: Need help to quit smoking.

SWIM has been smoking for 3 years between an 1/8th and a half ounce a day sometimes a full ounce if he has the cash.

SWIM wanted to see if he could quit and found that it is all in the head. He quit for 3 days the first time where he was just pissed off. Had a solid weekend of smoking and then took another 5 days then smoked for one day and then he found it was a lot easier to go without weed. The love for weed will never leave though so he just went back to smoking everyday but in smaller amounts.

Re: Need help to quit smoking cannabis.

best thing with weed, is not to go cold turkey. just go about smoking as you usually would, but start to increase the times between smoking each J/bowl/blunt. even if it means taking longer to roll each joint, for example take more time in enjoying the process of rolling, making your Js look nice. It will make you appreciate your abilities more. then just start to fill the gaps with other things, still smoking, just less of it, with greater gaps in between. it may take a couple of weeks but eventually you'll be happy with a couple of js a day, maybe one to send you to sleep. Finally when you can (and if you actually want to) you'll find it alot easier to stop completely, maybe just limiting your smoking to a couple of times a week. nothing wrong with that!

Re: Need help to quit smoking cannabis.

SWIM is currently in the tail end of his last weekend smoking. What SWIM is doing is putting up reminders all over of the great job he will get after he passes a drug test that will give him money to go back to college. So why is SWIY quitting? Also, SWIM has been making lists of things he can spend his weed money on to improve his quality of life. If the withdrawals are psychological, so then can be the solution.
