Oxyc - friend w/ pain wdr - will this help?
Ok. A freind has been on Oxyc and addicted. He don't even get high or like it anymore, but if he don't do it every day he hurts. (says his legs hurt). Right now he is also hiaving probs with high blood pressure (from oxyc?).
So. Say he takes something like vicodine instead of oxyc... would that take away the pain of wdr? Or valume? Would that help? Is the bp problem because of this drug? He's having enough health problems that he's scared and wants to quit. How do I help him? |

Re: Oxyc - friend w/ pain wdr - will this help?
Well, from Swiv's understanding, opiates/oids tend to lower blood pressure as it depresses the central nervous system. Swiv really can't see oxycodone causing high blood pressure. Pain can raise one's blood pressure though. If swiy's friend has real pain, that could very well be causing his high blood pressure. There are lots of reasons his blood pressure may be high. Only a doctor can tell him why as the doc can run blood tests and such to pinpoint the source of the BP issue. Vicodin (hydrocodone/APAP) would just be a weaker version of what he already takes, and Valium (diazepam) can help with musculoskeletal pain and muscle spasms, but it isn't really a pain killer. It is an anti-anxiety drug that happens to be a decent muscle relaxer.
If he wants to quit, he should get in touch with his prescribing doctor and have him taper swiy's friend off slowly to minimize withdrawals. That would be a better option than going cold turkey and suffering horrid withdrawals. Swiv hopes swiy's friend gets help and she hopes his pain problem is solved more permanently than meds would be able to do. Hope this helps! |

Thanks Venusia.
So don't try to help a friend with the vik or valume then.

Re: Oxyc - friend w/ pain wdr - will this help?
Well, I can't tell anyone what they shouldn't do (unless they are in some kind of danger or whatnot). It's ultimately up to you. I just think giving him weaker pills won't do much for him, but you know the situation better than I do. Just realize that giving away controlled substances to anyone other than to whom they were prescribed is against the law, so keep that in mind and think it through. If it were me, I wouldn't.

SWIM was just put on CLonodine by his doc to control his HBP and to hopefully help him sleep so as said above, the BP is probably from the W/D's

Re: Oxyc - friend w/ pain wdr - will this help?
SWIM posted that because as a recovering addict, his BP went up, prior to coming clean he was always at 120/80, since coming off it was 150/110 most days. So in SWIM's case, the HBP was related to the w/d's, in case it wasn't clear above that the two were related.

Re: Oxyc - friend w/ pain wdr - will this help?
clonidine is, and always will be a godsend to recovering opiate addicts. that is all.
valium, or any other addictive medication, in most cases, only fuels the addiction to continue. clonidine is not addictive, however caution should be taken when you stop. taper off the dose over a few days to a week, because it can cause the opposite effect if stopped abruptly. (blood pressure can go up). anyone on clonidine needs to take it easy whilst theyre on it. be careful when standing up, cause it can make you dizzy, and in some cases pass out. also, in the process of lowering blood pressure, its very important to keep your fluids up. dehydration will result in lowering the blood pressure further, and this can get quite dangerous. so remember... drink lots of water, and take caution when standing. |
