So ive heard from a little kitty of mine that Salvia plants were being sold in Home Depot! he even sent a picture! Would this be the same plant to get you high? Could one grow and cultivate it?

Re: Salvia at Home Depot

Doubt it.

There are other, more common, ornamental types of salvia.

Re: Salvia at Home Depot

yes, this would be other ornemental or officinal sage, salvia.
Salvia divinorum is the strongly psychoactive one.

due to this question's reccurence, i'm starting to think it's time for a sticky stating this in the thread title.

Benga: I think that's a very good idea. This question comes up at least once a month.

Re: Salvia at Home Depot

This cat I know went to a Lowes and looked over their whole plant collection for psychoactives, he came away with a four salvia species (not divinorum) and an ice plant. It was really disorganized and a bad place to look for such things.

Re: Salvia at Home Depot

Of course not! Major stores do not sell psychoactive sage species.

And as far as "ice plants" go, let's say the person did get one of the 1,900 species of Mesembryanthemum and not some other plant casually given that name, would any one like to place bets that said plant is one of the hand ful of active ones? Anyone? 1,900:5 against!

Re: Salvia at Home Depot

To prove his point, take a look: http://species.wikimedia.org/wiki/Mesembryanthemum All there is on this page are a list of different types of this species. A LOT...and I'm willing to bet that's not all of them.

The good psychoactive plants are hard to get in a greenhouse...let's face it, they just aren't as pretty. (But they do a number on how you see the world, so let's just say they're pretty on the inside).

Exactly so, I don't believe he found anything of true value, but he learned alot about spotting salvia species huddled amongst a mass of other mislabeled plants, based on common traits. Certainly made him interested in getting a psychoactive botany book with drawings for identification and wandering off into the woods.

His ice plant, however.. He hasn't read any kind of tek that has worked in regards to proper extraction/usage, but it is interesting looking.
