Fresh Pods, good idea?
So what if someone were to have some fresh pods and was a bit shy about wandering around the yard with a blade? Does it make any sense to just lop off there heads and chop them up for cfo? Is there any advantage to bleeding them before the cfo process? If not, why waste your time slicing them.
Let me know if I'm missing anything. It would seem that one would get 100% of the available alkaloids just taking the entire head off. Thanks so much for your insight! Jaas |

Re: Fresh Pods, good idea?
I read a theoretical discussion here somewhat related to your question.
The question in that thread was would a pod that had been bled and had the latex left on its' exterior have more total alkaloids than a pod that had not been bled at all? Both pods being from the same plant, of course, and then being used for tea or CFO. The answer, in theory, was yes - the pod that had been bled and then harvested with the latex on the outside would have more total alkaloids than the un-bled pod. By this logic, one would have to guess when a pod is lanced that the poppy plant produces new alkaloids to replace those that bleed out. As this relates to the question of this thread, one would guess that the advantage of bleeding the pod before harvesting for CFO would be a larger amount of alkaloids to begin working with. Whether the latex is left on the pod or harvested alone, the total yield is more total alkaloids than using an untouched pod. In theory, according to other threads, latex used as is directly from the plant or cleaned and concentrated even further via the CFO method produces a superior product to CFO produced from just ground pods. Once could also combine fresh harvested latex and ground pods for a better end product than just ground pods alone. One could guess to that the O.P. of the prior threads' discussion may have been uncomfortable as well wandering around the yard with a blade, and then wandering around the yard harvesting latex. Theoretically, bleeding the pod a bit and then harvesting the whole pod would require less time wandering around the yard and produce a pod with with a greater amount of total alkaloids. Hope this helps in a situation similar to yours. d_one |

Re: Fresh Pods, good idea?
Thanks d_one for your thoughtful response. Your last idea of a "hybrid" type harvesting sounds good. I am new here and I have read tons of threads, so I apologize for my "noobness", but after reading pages upon pages of info, it's hard to distinguish good from bad in the beginning.
I'm also going to post a thread of some plants that need identifying. If someone happens to read this thread, that is familiar with what things should look like, please keep an eye out for that one. Thanks again, Jaas |

Regular latex benefits from being cooked also as the latex also contains a lot of contaminate influences which can be removed. Quote:
