Drug Geek dilemma

Hello all. Swim has a social dilemma on his hands. Swim is in college, is very intelligent (with 4.0 grades) and cerebral, constantly thinking about deep complex things like the mystery of perception, philosophy, spirituality, the universe, etc. Swim is a nonconformist as well, rarely adopting any practice or lifestyle that seems unfulfilling. Swim also likes to experiment (for both spirituality and plain old fun) with altered states induced by cannabis, psilocybin, and has tried LSD and salvia, and is highly interested in DMT but hasn't found it. Swim favorite music is psychedelic trance/ambient or psy-rock/psy-jam, with bands including Shpongle (or any Simon Posford work), Younger Brother, Pink Floyd, Louts (jam band), some Phish, good classic rock, etc.

However, Swim feels isolated because mostly all of his friends are different. They are what you would call stereotypical drug losers. They use drugs just to 'get fucked up', they think on shallow levels, are conformists, have no jobs, and play video games constantly. However, Swim has noticed that most intellectuals he does meet are workaholics and mostly closed minded, especially about psychedelics, and generally are not that personally interesting or in to drugs at all.

Swim is caught in no man's land between the two cultures, part of him is the intellectual side, and the other part is the open minded side that knows how to let go, experiment and live life outside of the box. Swim needs help meeting people who are intelligent AND open minded and like to use mind expanding drugs. Swim is 20 years old, and lives in north-eastern USA. Of course you probably won't think of any specific place because that is location-dependent, but what general places, social groups, clubs, organizations, careers, etc. do 'drug geeks' tend to associate with? Swim hopes some of you can relate to my problem and any help is appreciated.
